I’ll admit it, I’ve had a couple of warnings in the past. But not too many, and I view them kinda like speeding tickets. “Sorry, officer. I know I can’t call somebody a douchebag in Cafe Society, but damnit! He IS a douchebag!” Anyway, I’m not arguing those.
Not arguing anything, really. I opened up my user control panel and the couple of warnings dated back two years were listed, but they have a column listing “points” and they all have zero. Is there a point system, or do the mods just kinda review it and make an arbitrary decision?
We don’t assign points, which are a function of the standard system.
Every time we review someone’s posting history (as the ominous phrase goes), we do it on a case by case basis – the number of warnings, the type, and the frequency. (Three warnings over the course of ten years are not as troubling as three warnings in ten days.)
So, no, it’s not a matter of “you get to X points and you ping the mods’ radar” – it’s more like “I’ve told this poster to cool it several times recently,and he or she has X number of warnings, the most recent Y amount of time ago, do we need to take steps here?”
Actually, the only warnings you will see there are the ones that were issued since we instituted the automated warning system in May 2009. Before that, we maintained a record of warnings manually, and these are not visible in the recipient’s profile. However, the older the warning the less we take it into account when considering further action.
Seriously? No, I was just pulling numbers out of the air to create an example. I didn’t go into the dusty files in the back room to see what previous mischief you might have gotten into.
The actual vBulletin system makes a Warning no points. They have something called an infraction that has points, and can auto suspend or ban you if get high enough, but they don’t use that here.
I know this because Another forum I frequent uses actual infractions.
