Was this a "real" Wonka candy?

So I’m munching on some peanut butter m&m’s, and my taste buds are trying to argue with my memory that there is/was a similar candy from my childhood who’s name or packaging referenced oompa loompas.

Do such a notion ring a bell for anyone else?

:smack: I should’ve googled a bit more before I went disturbing the hamsters.

From here: http://www.borg.com/~superman/Facts.html

Found this, but no reference to peanut butter.

I’m still mourning the loss of these. :sniff: :frowning:

I remember both of those candies as well as something called an “Everlasting Gobstopper”. IIRC, it was basically a wildly colored jawbreaker with chocolate in the middle.

No, “Everlasting Gobstoppers” never had a chocolate center that I recall; they had more like a sweet-tart center.

Oompa-Loompas were one of my favorite candies when I was a kid; as I recall they were slightly sweeter and more peanut-buttery than M&Ms Peanut Butter.

From what I recall, they were just called “Oompas” and the candy bar was just “Scrunch” or “Super Scrunch”.

No chocolate, and I’m pretty sure they still exist.

Not only do they exist, but they have “chewy” versions, too (which sort of defeats the purpose, eh?)

Gobstoppers are only available in the small version these days. I miss the big 1" jawbreaker size they used to make.

Yep, they were even in the same television commercial together “Scrunch and Oompas”.
Never has a Scrunch but Oompas were just like peanut butter m&m’s.

:smack: Uh…yeah. That’s what I meant.

Do they still make Tart N Tinys? I remember these as a kid. They were sold under the Wonka label, but I think that was something that was added later. The 1978 or so Tart N Tinys I don’t believe had the Wonka label.

They must have in 1978, since I noticed the Wonka label on them as a little kid - and I couldn’t read at age one, so it had to have been on the label into the 80s.

Gobstoppers are widely available, at least in this neck of the woods. I see them in most of the convenience stores in your normal candy size ($0.65) as well as a large size that’s a bit over a dollar…

They make them, but they have a candy shell on them now. They didn’t back in the 80’s, did they? I remember yummy pressed sugar with no shell.

I thought I saw “Oompa Loompas” recently ((Before The Remake though)) that where pillow shaped… and came in different colors… I didnt taste them.

Also… Nerds are under “Wonka” brand right?

Not quite. They were just like peanut butter m&m’s that were an inch in diameter and a good quarter-inch thick.

Best candy ever.

They didn’t have a shell like a Spree. They were more like a shiny Sweet Tart.

Unless I’m thinking of the wrong candy.
