Washington Post: Cheney is Vice President for Torture

Looks like the Washington Post has finally relocated its journalistic integrity.

Wow. Is the Post spot-on with this, or what? I found it quite interesting that they nearly refer to him in the past tense. Do they know something we don’t know? Is this a courageous editorial or should they get 15 yards for piling on?

Personally, I think Darth Cheney deserves all of this and more. Bravo, WP!

Well, Dick Cheney AS Veep is torture, so it isn’t surprising.

Saw that this morning. Good on the Post! That editorial stems from an article published yesterday detailing Cheney’s exempting the CIA from abuse restricitions. Link.

‘Bring us your tired and huddled masses. We need to get some practice in.’

And that was on the heels of this press release the day before enumerating the death-by-torture of multiple detainees.

Well, maybe they thought that the Vice President’s job title means for him to be in charge of vice.

Not to disagree with the editorial or anything, but when did the Post (in your opinion) lose its journalistic integrity? I wasn’t aware that they have recently been a shill for the present administration, if that’s what you mean.

They and much of their media brethren have indeed been shills for the administration. This editorial could have and should have come out when the torture allegations came out. The media have all been cowering for the last five years and only when the administration shows signs of weakness do they finally dare speak out. I have specific issues with the Post but at this late hour I haven’t the time to go over them.

Yes, despite the Post’s handicap in not having Judith Miller on payroll, they screamed administration lies about the “grave and gathering threat” posed by Saddam’s WMD’s nearly as loudly as the New York Times.
Their belated and half assed mea culpa was not followed up with a significant change in editorial behavior.

I didn’t know you could be a shill for someone while endorsing his oppenent in an election, as the Post did in '04. I think your problem is that they didn’t hate Bush with every fiber of their being.

Actually, I think he was referring to how the Post, and many other media outlets for that matter, spent a good deal of time presenting the Presidents case for the war in Iraq on the front page and burying any doubts/questions in the middle.

See Squinks link for details.

I don’t read the Post, but I find this hard to believe. Were there no front page articles detailing the objections France, Germany, etc had during the run-up to war?

It’s not a cite by any means, but I sure don’t remember seeing any. I do, however, remember quite a few articles slyly bringing up Russia’s, France’s, and Germany’s financial interests in Iraq.
