Watching: The Spy, on Netflix

Sacha Baron Cohen stars in a drama about an Israeli spy who infiltrated Syria in the early 60’s. Based on true events.

SBC is excellent as a serious actor and the story is quite good. About 2/3 of the way through.

Anybody see it? I highly recommend watching.

Yeah, I watched it a couple months back. I agree that it’s quite good. Definitely don’t expect James Bond going in.

Yep, I really liked it. Very tense in parts, with great acting from a broad cast.

A few obvious misses in the story for me so far. I know he’s devoted to his wife, but if his cover requires him to sleep with another woman, he fucking well should and then deal with his conscience later. And sure, he is an agent that was supposed to be flawed in some way. His ambition and over-confidence is a big enough flaw. His fidelity to his wife is far too glaring a fault and entirely unnecessary to the plot/story to ensure he remains a likable character. Also, rolling around on a forest floor will result in a suede jacket that is filthy, not fresh as a daisy.
