We didn't have to move from Iowa ...

to the the desert forsnow!

Snow is supposed to stay up in the Sierra Nevada range, not be down here where we have to walk and drive in it.

David Simmons, I’ve been watching the Weather Channel off and on and I gather that this rainy weather will last until the middle of this coming week. With all of this extra rain and the yearly fires, have there been any mudslides in your area? Are there any predicted? Here’s hoping that you and your family are unscathed by this unusual weather.

I’m assuming you’re in Nevada? If that’s true, quit stealing all out snow  Everybody is supposed to take their fair share, and pass the rest on the the east. But you S.O.B.s are hogging it all. Colorado is having our 5th or so straight season below normal snowpack, and we really need the water so I can camp and fish next summer.

We aren’t troubled by mud slides. The nearest mountains are several miles away and are in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada so they don’t have much vegetation. All of the bad mudslides in this area are long since past and all we get is a gradual buildup of the valley floor as gravel slowly washes down from the surrounding mountains.

California, but my grandson lives in Reno so I’ll pass the word to him to ease up. Actually we have had a prolonged drought; at least 4 years now. Our mountain forests have really suffered and that was part of the cause of the extent of the fires last fall. Sorry about your problem but, although I am probably your best bet to intercede with the Weather God, my powers are limited and there’s nothing I can do in this case. If I could do something the first thing would be in ensure that the snow stays in the mountains where it belongs and not down here. Think of the golf being missed!

David, if you feel picked upon, just remember your friends here in Palm Springs. We are guaranteed 360 days a year of sun (it’s in the city civic code, I’m sure) and so far 2005 has been quite wet and gloomy. Who’s up for a spring desert DopeFest / wildflower viewing party? The hills are as green as I have ever seen this time of year, and the flowers are going to be outrageous in the spring.

I bought new thermal underwear at Target. Pink. What a wacky year!

In the spring I fully expect to be able to put a picture of a carpet of flowers that extends for miles next to the snow pix.

Hey look you guys
I don’t know who is supposed to get all this ice but someone is slacking off!

If it makes you feel any better, my part of Iowa had 17 inches of snow in the last week (a two day storm), plus freezing rain and about an inch of ice on most roadways on New Year’s Day.

So why didn’t you share?
We got freezing rain 3 times last week and we only got 3 inches of snow. Right now its kind of a mist and its 32 degrees.

Whyn’t ya tell me you wanted some? You could have ours. Of course you would also also take some of our drivers outta here. At Big Bear a bunch of people were stuck in the snow for up to 12 hours. Big Bear elevation is around 7000’, it has been snowing and storming in the mountains for several days and many of those stuck in odinary sedans went up there without tire chains.

Yeah, and up here in the Twin Cities, we’ve only had something like 2.5 inches of snow so far this winter. I believe some TV weather personality remarked the other day that it’s the least amount of snow we’ve received to date in 114 years.

Send some of the snow up here, we can handle it.
