Awwww!
Shimmer is obviously an excellent mama.
Growing like ballpark franks. They plump!
Thanks for sharing!
Milestones today!
Shimmer and the puppies all got their deworming treatment. Here’s one of the puppies getting theirs.
And here’s one of the puppies climbing on the edge of the whelping box.
First explorations!
“Hey, there’s a world out there!”
They are getting big!
One of the puppies escaped the whelping box today, and I spent so much time freaking out about it and trying to get it back in (which I eventually did when it got close to the door) that I forgot to take a picture of it.
My landlady tells me that’s a natural progression in their development, that soon it will be time to wean the puppies and get them into their own cage without their mother all the time.
Sounds like they are right on time.
MOAR MILESTONES!
Puppies sleeping in herds!
And for the first time on digital photograph, the puppies standing up to nurse!
Shimmer was very wet in that last photo. She’d just been out to go potty, and we’ve got a tropical storm.
I’m loving all the puppy pix! Puppies rule OK! I’ve got a question though–early on in the thread, OP says that female Samoyed puppies are more in demand or valuable than male ones are, and I wondered, strictly out of idle curiosity, “Why is that?”
Based strictly off my own experience, my guess would be that female Samoyed dogs can live more comfortably in multiple-female households, whereas you have to keep boys separated or they’re liable to fight over the girls.
But I’ll ask.
My own experience with dogs tends toward the girls having more trouble getting along than the boys.
They are smaller and perceived as being sweeter.
But my landlady said my statement isn’t necessarily true.
They’re more valuable to her because she can have puppies with them, though.
My experience as well. With dogs, males are more mellow. Females are, well, bitches.
Is this among breeders, or do many of the people who get Samoyeds intend to breed them? Breeders need more bitches than dogs; though an individual highly-rated dog will be extra valuable.
Alternatively, maybe the males either are, or are thought to be, more likely to be overly aggressive.
In my experience of raising dogs, males are more likely to pee on the couch. It is much easier to give a female dog options to relieve herself inside if traffic holds you up or something requires her to be alone for long periods.
I love CeltDog, but I will always choose a female dog in future.
Puppies got to go outside for the first time a couple of days ago!
We have a spectacular little puppy playground in the front yard.
Landlady says she might ultimately keep two of these four puppies, the boy and one of the girls; she really likes them. The other two are spoken for.
