Huh?
“Clinton is a better public speaker than Obama. I think I’ll vote for Romney”’
Is that how republican logic works?
I have always been baffled that Gore and Kerry didn’t run more on the Clinton economy. I have also been baffled by why Democrats in general don’t highlight the fact that in the last 50 years Democratic presidents have produced far better economic numbers than Republicans. Clinton did a brilliant job of explaining that. Obama’s decision to woo Clinton and give him such a prominent place itself shows he is a really smart politician.
It reminded me that George W. Bush isn’t Bill Clinton. The Democrats embraced and celebrated their former president while the GOP had to disown theirs.
I think in those days Clinton was still tainted by the Lewinsky scandal, and Gore and Kerry (especially Gore) did not want to be associated with that.
Now that enough time has passed, and the Lewinsky scandal taint has mostly faded, and Clinton is emerging as an elder statesman, Obama feels safe in bringing him out.
Amazing speech by the way. Truly impressive oratorical skills.
Also, it’s amazing how much more honest a speech can be when given by someone who’s not planning on running for office again.
Except that Clinton was still popular with the general public even after the Lewinsky scandal. I agree that Gore in particular was running away from the Lewinsky scandal but distancing himself from Clinton entirely was stupid. Any competent politician would have associated himself with Clinton’s policies while distancing himself from his scandals. Especially since as a matter of fact, Gore did have some role in Clinton’s economic policies but was competely uninvovled in his personal scandals.
Anyway, if ya’ll think an undercard speech is going to win an election, you’re delusional. If Clinton couldn’t put his wife over the top, he’s not going to do it for an incumbent with an underwater approval rating.
Well my goodness, aren’t you just a delightful little gem?
You’re hilarious. Of course it’s not about any *one *speech or event; it’s about the big picture. And Bill’s speech contributed to that. Nothing at the RNC came close to the positive draw that is Bill Clinton. Unless you count Clint Eastwood, but again, that was more of a sparkle on Obama’s big picture. And for Romney, who’s already struggling to inspire, appeal to the middle, present a coherent message about what he plans on doing as prez, or even show well in the polls, these net positives for Obama in the big picture don’t make Romney’s big picture look so hot.
“Undercard.” Ha! I’ll bet you didn’t refer to those Republican ex-presidents who spoke in support of Romney at the RNC last week as “undercards.” Oh wait, that’s right… Who’d you guys have again?
The GOP is about the future. Any democratic stars on the horizon once Obama’s done?
From what I’ve seen this week, yeah, plenty of stars up and coming on the Democratic side of the aisle.
And what “future” are you imagining the GOP is about?
Oh yeah, the “future” where gay people are invisible, minorities know their place and women are in the kitchen. Sorry, I forgot.
So the GOP’s conceded this one then? I suspected as much, but it’s good to hear such a blind supporter say it out loud.
And to answer your question: Patrick, Booker, Castro, Clinton, Warren, Hickenlooper, Kamala Harris…don’t worry about us; we’ve got more than a few contenders. And those are just the ones we have standing on deck for all to see.
hardly. You don’t concede a game where you’re tied.
Hahahahahahahhahaha!
Stop it, you’re killing me!
That would either be completely awesome or simply consist of “Brains” repeated over and over.
Yes. They spent the week pretending the past didn’t happen. As Christie said, it doesn’t matter how we got here. George W. Who?
They don’t even have to limit it to the last 50 years. If you look at all available data (whicch generally goes back to FDR), the song remains the same. You pick any indicator you like; it’s done better under Democrats.
adaher and OMG are in damage-control free fall right now, it looks like. Hillarious.
