We need a new show to watch, and apparently we're way too picky

Corner Gas.
Another vote for Psych, at least the first few seasons.

Yeah, I’d say Corner Gas is pretty much exactly what they’re looking for. No major relationships, at worst very mild Canadian accents that are similar to at least some American accents, definitely a comedy, and not much learning/hugging to be had.

I’d also suggest Letterkenney, another Canadian product. There’s one character with an annoying “accent”, but he’s supposed to be largely unintelligible, plus he’s a piece of shit anyways (both of those are canon, in the show, not just my opinions  ).

Corner Gas looks good…anyone know if it’s available to stream anywhere?

This page says that, if you’re in the U.S., your streaming option is on IMDb TV.

Another Showtime dramedy with a lot of dark humor that’s often mentioned alongside Weeds is ‘Shameless’. All but maybe the last season are also on Netflix. And there are a lot of seasons, so there’s a lot to watch if you like it.

I watched the first episode of Shameless the night it debuted. I remember all the ads telling me how funny it was, and I remember once again walking away wondering how they arrived at that description.
I understand when a show is trying to be funny, and I just don’t appreciate the humor (like the Big Bang Theory or Friends). But a lot of these shows, like Search Party and Shameless, are different—I don’t even see where the show is trying to be funny.

OK, I’m like 0 for 3 in this thread, so I give up :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It is good.

Which means it’s “free with ads,” I think.

Yeah, and IMDB really, really has a lot of ads. But I’ll look for it tonight anyway.

I’m not sure if it’s still current, but this page says it’s also on Amazon Prime in the US.

Also, for the OP, while there is an animated version of Corner Gas, that’s a sort of sequel series. The original is live-action.

Is it coming back?

I could not accept the son torturing animals as “funny”, and thus the show was unwatchable.

It is, on streaming. Wikipedia says that the third season of The Orville is supposed to drop on Hulu in March.

Indeed it is.

March 10th 2022 on Hulu in the US.

Too bad about accents, as “Episodes”, starring Matt LeBlanc is one of the funniest shows I’ve seen in years. Two British writers are lured to Los Angeles to write an American series based on their hit British series. Most all of the cast is either American or speaks with a good American accent, but the two writers are British. It has left Netflix, but can probably be found on Amazon.

If you like dark humor, the “Fargo” series is excellent (for the first three seasons, anyway).

I liked Fargo, but I know my wife wouldn’t. Again, if the whole cast isn’t speaking with an accent, it’s probably fine. And the more I think about it, it tends to be English/Irish/Australian accents that bother her. We enjoyed ‘Outsourced’ when it was on and I don’t recall that being an issue.

It was just a few weeks ago. We have the show on DVD, but watched a few episodes on Amazon because we saw it while looking for something to watch with my mother-in-law.

I didn’t see any references for A.P. Bio, which has a number of simularities with Community. It even has Todd, although he’s called Dave now…

I did make a reference to it…we have watched it. Some were good; the episodes where he seemed like he was starting to like the kids weren’t so good. The Mick was the same—we liked it when she was clearly just grifting the family, but once she started to like the kids it wasn’t as good.

Is that show coming back? Seems kind of limiting —how long can this one school year really last with those same students? Sooner or later they’re going to need to take the AP exam.

A.P. Bio has been cancelled after completing 4 seasons, two on NBC, and two on Peacock.

Fuck streaming.

Or at least the first two.
