We need a new show to watch, and apparently we're way too picky

Fuck streaming? Why?

Is that online porn?

Well, I have a legit gripe and hate for Netflix, but I get cable very cheap, and so if it ain’t on cable or Amazon Prime, I say “fuck streaming”. Too many damn channels, and then channels like HBO take shows & films away from their loyal cable subscribers to hand out to special streaming customers.

Oh, and let us not start a hijack.

If you do drop Netflix, I’d give another vote for Mythic Quest. There is character growth and its hilarious and original. We really enjoyed it.

JourneyQuest is a low-budget, tongue-in-cheek fantasy series that both gently mocks and obviously loves it’s subject matter. Episodes are usually short. Four seasons have been completed since the first in 2010; it is available on YouTube and Amazon Prime (and a few other places). Production values rise with each season as the producers, Zombie Orpheus Entertainment, get more funding.

Here is S1E1 (7.5 minutes): Onward!

I’m subscribing to this thread because I relate to the OP. My wife and I are looking for a good comedies.

I came here years ago asking a similar question. The Dopers then suggested Modern Family and we loved it!

Looking for another one. We have tried Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but NO. I don’t like laugh tracks to tell me when to laugh.

ETA — found that other thread:

I have never seen Brooklyn Nine Nine but it’s been on my list to watch, and I was under the impression that it was a single-camera show and therefore would not have a laugh track. Am I wrong? That would make me less likely to watch.

Brooklyn 99 doesn’t have a laugh track. I’m confoozled.

It has a laugh machine right? Maybe I’m calling it by the wrong name.

How about Third Rock From The Sun? A great comedic cast and snappy writing.

I once said I’d never use captions. I was ignoring my inevitable aging.

Just a month ago, the audiologist said “You need to use closed captioning.”
… Now, that might be because I told him how I’ll watch something with my wife, who doesn’t like captioning. Then, after she goes to bed, I’ll stay up and rewatch it with the captions on (almost everything we watch has at least one British accent).

I quoted the audiologist to my wife, who now reminds me to turn them on. She still doesn’t like them, but I’ve set them small and semi-transparent (on network channels and Hulu at least), so they’re not too intrusive.

Embrace your aging. Learn to read your TV.

You might like to give Lucifer a try. It’s a very light-hearted detective show with a very charismatic lead actor, and never takes itself too seriously.

If the wife can tolerate 1950’s New York accents, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is laugh-out-loud funny, and quite sweet in its own way.

Well, I assure you the show titled “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” does not have a laugh track.

I just watched the first episode of Brooklyn 99, no laugh track. You must be thinking of a different show.

Yeah I must be.

How about Chuck?

Hapless underachieving nerd (literally: works at “Buy More” in their “Nerd Herd”) accidentally becomes major CIA asset. It’s a combination of humor and action.

… never mind

So we watched the first two episodes of Corner Gas last night, and I think we’ve got a winner. I think we’re sticking with this one, as long as it stays this good.
Sam_Stone–Lucifer is another one of those shows that I would never have guessed was meant to be a comedy either.
Vimp–as for the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, I’ve seen the ads for this as well and it didn’t look like it was meant to be funny either. Certainly not ‘laugh-out-loud’, but I’ll put it on the list and check it out.

Watched this back when it was new. Had forgotten all about it, but I recall thinking it was watchable, but not great.
