I have disagreed (at least in my head) with many of your posts, but none more so than this. Can you explain what is the difference between these things and common, everyday internet glurge?
Not every thread is for every poster. If the thread is not to your taste, your remedy is to stay out of the thread, not shit on it. You even have the option of muting the thread so you needn’t be annoyed by it further.
Oh, my Dog, that’s one of the most adorable things I’ve ever seen, and I’ve missed it up till now! Thanks for sharing it. Ollie the Dachshund was riveted! Looks like I’ll be doing some leaf raking next year…
I think I can explain. Glurge is, as defined by Snopes:
Glurge: A sentimental or heart-rending story that undermines its own inspirational message by distorting – or ignoring – the facts. The name was inspired by the often saccharine storytelling style employed in these tales.
There’s also often a hidden negative side to a glurge, as in “I was about to go down a dark alley, then I had a vision that an angel told me not to. The next person who went down the alley got mugged. I got saved by an angel!” Too bad the poor schmuck who got mugged missed the angelic warning.
Cute animal or (factual) rescue videos on the other hand, may not by your cup of tea, but they are not glurge.
In that spirit, here’s a cute animal video that someone posted here years ago that cheered me up once. I previously had no idea foxes were so cute and playful:
I saw a family of foxes in the road when something was on the hillside. Yes the dumbasses were in the road but the dad was looking up the hillside and the mom was about 5 feet back, also scanning the hillside, protecting the kits. The kits were being taught how to look for threats.
