We saw this on the news last night.

My cat stood up from the monitor and started looking around with worry on her face. She was seriously concerned by the sound of a wailing cat. I couldn’t believe the reporter didn’t recognize the warning sounds, but I admire her ability to get back in front of the camera even when she was obviously upset.

If she’d had real presence of mind, she would have put her hands over her face and screeched “MY EYES! MY EYES!” and then stopped and said “just kidding.”

The reporter did really well - it sounded for a moment as if she was about to burst into tears, but she soldiered on. As for that yowling noise, I suppose to someone who isn’t very familiar with cats it just sounds like “meow”, and everyone knows that’s the noise cats are supposed to make, right?

Good question, Ellef. It sounded so obvious to me, but I have cats.

Well, at least Ms. News Reporter didn’t put her spiked heel right through the cat.*
*“The Class” reference - I’m not actually advocating spiking cats.

Youtube’s quality makes it hard to tell if she was about to cry or laugh (or some combination of the two), but if the rest of that take was done anywhere near the same time the cat attacked, she was just fine.

Also, this just further proves that cats are jerks.

Oh, and a bit of weirdness… Our local Fox affiliate has a Bill Martin, too, on weather.

You can tell it hurt her pretty good and she had to take a second to suck it up before she started talking again.

According to the follow-up story, she said the cat was fine until the lights got brighter and she started projecting her voice for the story. By that point, she was in “reporter mode” and wasn’t really paying attention to the cat, all of which I find wholly credible. She also admitted she’s not much of a cat person, and had the same reaction watching the video that a lot of viewers did: “Hey lady, drop the cat!”

I wonder if she wasn’t too busy concentrating on the camera and what she was saying to really be paying any attention to the cat.

EDIT: Should’ve previewed…
