There is nothing sane about Cruz, and he is much more dangerous than Trump simply because he is smarter. Trump would be an ineffectual president, Cruz would not be. As president, Cruz’ Dominionist positions would begin to permeate all levels of a government that would be more theocratic than ever. Look at the Bush 2 Justice department for a very small sample of how quickly and easily a government agency can be coopted and corrupted.

The single most dangerous thing about a Cruz administration is he’ll have 2 to maybe 4 SCOTUS nominations that will make Scalia look like an atheist liberal.
Followed closely by his desire to have the SCOTUS brought to heel with retention elections.

Trump is certainly capable of doing irreparable harm, but its a gamble, he might also govern a bit pragmatically. He’s shown himself capable of change and trying to please both sides on occasion if it aligns with his own beliefs.
With Cruz, you know he will be against sanity and reason from the start. This is a guy who shut down the government and caused a reduction in the credit of this country. He’ll scream bloody murder if he doesn’t get 100% of what he wants and he’d have the power to destroy the country if he doesn’t get his way. He’s a true believer, you have no chance to influence him, you either join him or get trampled. Compared to Trump, he’s a danger 100% of the time rather than 90% of the time.
Bad guys, especially nameless minions, don’t get the character development and nuance that good guys get. If one alien thinks something, they all think that way, same way as if one orc is evil, they are all evil, or one Chitauri.
