We took a weird drug years ago. What could it be?

10 years ago. We were at a club and split off in search of X. One person scored something. It sure wasn’t X. The pills were obviously home pressed. They were that institutional puke green color. We took the pill, downed our beer and were going somewhere else. It hit us fast. And we were not newbees to recreational drugs. We were walking down the stairs and saying WTF. My legs weren’t cooperating but it wasn’t like being drunk. It was maybe like a dissociative has been described. I never tried K so I dunno.

Vision wasn’t blurry it just wrong. It was almost like a mild acid trip but short term memory shot. We talked coherently about going home. We drove(I know) but then forget where we were going for a bit. There’s a loop around the city and we circled like 3 time. Theres downtown atlanta again. Oh dear there it is agaim. It was force of will to say focus mind on where your exit is. Think of nothing else. It was also almost like a stimulant but not the euphoria of coke or speed. Any ideas? Was reminiscing and we all wonder what the hell we took that night.

You might find this site a good resource:

Keep in mind that what you took may not have been a single substance, but from your description, it sounds somewhat like a…

There are many, many different types, but short-term memory loss is one possible side effect, especially if it was a big dose and perhaps even one used for surgery, like midazolam.

For whatever reason, I thought of roofies when I read this. I’ve never taken them, so I don’t know. It sounds little like K though…

I wince at the thought of driving. I mean, I’m against onerous drug laws, but what you were doing was crazy and dangerous! You should have waited somewhere, anywhere, for the stuff to wear off!

I wonder if it was dextromethorphan. It’s a dissociative with similar effects to ketamine. It can cause euphoria in low doses, particularly when one is listening to music. So it’s not unlikely to be found in a club. People do typically consume it by ingesting cough medicine, but it’s possible to extract it from the medicine (or get ahold of it in powdered form) and make pills from that.

I have no idea what you ingested - I don’t even take ibuprophen unless absolutely necessary - but, dude, you were lit. The loop around Atlanta on I285 is 65 miles. That means, according to your estimate of 3 laps, you drove on the interstate for about 3 hours. The speed limit on the perimeter is 55 MPH but traffic, outside of rush hour, usually moves at 65-70+ MPH.

If the drug itself didn’t make you believe in God, the fact that you didn’t kill yourself or somebody else should.

You really didn’t provide any details of the side effects. Did you enter a dream-like state? Could be DXM. Did you feel incredibly trashed like you were drinking, but with psychedelic effects and clear consciousness, but difficulty with coordination? Then it was K. Was it similar to Mescaline, but less trippy, more euphoric? Could be something in the 2C series. List the actual effects, not the story.

By the way, I used to do so many exotic drugs I consider myself somewhat an expert.

Not to turn this into a great debate, but I think you have summarized one of my big problems with hard drugs. Once someone takes the drugs how can they be expected to make rational decisions? And yet the safety and security of our society demands that we make rational decisions.

I’ve done heroic amounts of shrooms, PCP, LSD, and all manner of party drugs. I never once thought of getting behind a car. The closest thing that has ever made me do something I regret or that could get me in really serious trouble was the alcohol. A really high dose of PCP comes close, but I had enough sense to stay put and not handle anything sharp.

You have to take a LOT of dextromethorphan to get high from it. Even if that’s what was in the tablet, it probably wasn’t the only thing.

You have to drink a lot of robotussin to get high, but street DXM is still just a pill. A mild dose could be it, but not a lot of details of the trip are provided.

It wasnt trashed like drinking. It was one of the reasons we drove. Legs felt wobbly or almost disconnected going down stairs but OK once sitting. But even while walking it wasn’t like a stumbly drunk. It was “where are my legs” while walking straight. I had always had a hunch it was K but does that ever come in pill form? It was very mildly psychedelic, dissociative and no ultra short term memory.

K does come in pill form when it’s being sold as xtc even though that’s not the best way to take it and frankly, I think you could make more money just selling it as ketamine. But ecstacydata.org certainly shows that it happens plenty. The wobbly disconnected leg thing does sound like a dissociative, but I’ve also had 2c-whatever experiences that were similar, too.

Was it a stimulant? Did your heart rate increase? Dialated pupils? Did you talk faster than normal? Were you out of your chair and pacing more frequently?

DXM at low doses is a stimulant, too and sounds like it could fit your description. But it has to be a low dose, so just how messed up were you? Was it only mild? A sort of euphoria that made you want to rock back and forth, or were you having some seriously odd mental perceptions and thoughts and did you visual field look distant and mechanical?

How psychedelic was it? Were there visuals? Did you see patterns emerging in carpet when you stared at it? Were there tracers or “breathing”? That is, if something moved in front of your visual field, did it leave a trail? If you stared at something, did it appear as if certain objects were increasing or decreasing in size without actually doing so? Were there outright ripples in your visual field? Were there changes in your visual field when you moved your head? Did you occasionally see movement in your peripherals?

How mentally psychedelic was it? This one is a lot harder to explain, but how different did your experience of consciousness become? Do you remember any particularly odd thoughts you had? Any personal realizations or revelations? Classical psychedelics tend to make one feel connected and small, while dissociates are ego death - the concept of the self and the body and the world completely dissolving on higher doses. Were you making more connections about the rest of the world, or stepping back and not making any judgments, rather just experiencing? Did you experience any confused, delirious or “looped” thinking?

Physically, was there any numbness? Was there a pleasant vibrating feeling in your body? Was there difficulty with coordination? Dissociatives are tend to cause rather severe ataxia (it’s what makes the stories of the guy high on PCP committing feats of super strength so implausible - I’d have only a little bit and have to be super careful not to fall down when I went to use the bathroom).

How long did it last? How long did it take before you felt any effects? How long did it take to peak entirely? You indicated you had been drinking. Mixing DXM with alcohol can be a recipe for some pretty severe stomach cramps (although that might just be Robotussin, now that I think about it). Did you experience any stomach upset? Any sweating? What were the after effects like? Were you able to function normally when it wore off? Were you able to sleep when it wore off?

Second, with dissociatives you either love them or hate them. It’s actually a neurological thing. There are certain receptors that are either very pleasurable to have stimulated or very unpleasurable and it has little to do with side effects or “bad trips” (unlike classical hallucinagens). People who don’t like them say it makes them feel like a zombie. People who like them feel refreshed.

Right now I’d go with a first or second plateau DXM trip.

Why on earth would you put a drug in your body not knowing what it was? I dontgettit.

He thought it was X. Unless you’re buying bulk, its generally not cost effective to have it tested and ecstacy is notorious for rarely actually being MDMA. To the point I don’t think MDMA is actually synonymous with ecstacy anymore.
