We won the Triple Crown! (Rubgy)

Well the Irish needed something to cheer us up the day after Paddy’s day, and our 28-24 victory over England at Twickenham yesterday was it!

Ok, 3 dodgy tries and snatching victory from the jaws of defeat and all that, but boy was it a good match.

We spent the day in Kiely’s in Donnybrook, watching all three matches, and had a wonderful time…nothing like pints, national pride and good rugby to cure a hangover.

It was one of the tensest matches I’ve ever seen. Watched it in an Irish pub in Oxford. Fantastic result. I have such a hangover now.

We had a rugby watching party in our living room (lack of babysitters precluding doing so in the pub) here in Scotland, and while we were happy that we beat Italy, we were overjoyed that Ireland beat England! Great game!

Next year I propose we just start the scoreboard at Ireland 12 - 0 England; or the ref could tell us all to go and sit in the corner until Ireland have scored twice. It’d save messing around with the dodgy decisions.

Having to choke down at least a 2-score swing thanks to the officials for the second year in a row (last year Ireland were given one score that wasn’t, and England denied one that was) gets extremely galling. They say that luck with refereeing decisions evens out over time, but I’m struggling to see any evidence of it. Fair play to Ireland to sticking to the task, but this win was so tainted it was unfit for human consumption.
