"Weather forecast for Alberta today - Shitty, followed by wet and shitty, with a...

chance of shitty snow and shitty frost overnight."

What did we ever do to you, Mother Nature, you old bag? Hold off giving us spring until freakin’ June, turn July into an oven, then dump snow on us in August. Oh yeah, I forgot about the hordes of grasshoppers that have eaten all the crops that managed to survive the drought conditions. What have you got planned for us in September? No, wait, I don’t want to know. I imagine it will probably involve plagues of blood, frogs, gnats, boils, and/or death of firstborns. Let me guess - we’re not your chosen people here. Bleagh.

(Btw, huge thanks to all the Eastern farmers sending hay this way. Very much appreciated by all the cows, horses, and elk that might survive the winter now thanks to you.)

A friend of mine used to say that he thought that global warming might be a good thing for Alberta. After all, how could our weather possibly get worse? Bwa hahahahha… little did he know. (Not that this shitty weather is necessarily due to global warming.)

I feel for you featherlou. The weather is supposed to be even worse in Calgary than it is in Edmonton. We’re just getting rain, not snow. But I guess you getting chinooks in the “winter” makes up for that.

One thing I’ve learned about the weather in Calgary is “expect the unexpected” - you’re rarely disappointed here if you do that. For the best in winter (chinooks to melt everything mid-January) and the worst in summer (hail storms pounding your garden flat, etc.)

I’m with ya featherlou.

The weather is suck, suck, sucking.

I refuse to pull out my winter duvet though, even if it means I freeze to death each night.

BAH!

It’s cold and wet. But at least I don’t have to work. (I work outside)
Bring it on.

The Heat Index was over 100 today, here, with the temp up to 90 and the dewpoint holding steady at a worse-than-the-Gulf-Coast 72 to 75. Bring on some a that wet and shitty stuff, say I… I’d rather bundle up than try (unsuccessfully) to cool off.

And I move we should off the first person who pops into this thread and says brightly, “Hey, the weather’s perfect where I am!”

All in favor? Hands?

I’m in Edmonton, Featherlou, and it was so incredibly nice to wake up this morning and see sunshine - actual SUNSHINE - beaming in through my window. I have a friend who is a farmer, and he may lose everything because the weather was so screwed this year.

We caved, Al, and not only pulled out the winter duvet, but we have the furnace going as well. And I’m with Ducky - first person to say how perfect their weather is gets to spend the winter on Baffin Island and the summer in Death Valley. That’ll learn 'em.

I was walking around Inglewood today, featherlou, with long pants, long sleeved shirt, jacket and boots and I was FREEZING.

Let’s just say, I’m not impressed.

Actually, I was looking for a gift for my SIL’s B-day, and I wasn’t that impressed with that either. (I wound up getting her 14k gold filigree earings, just in case anyone cares).

What a nice way to wake up… besides the hangover and the entire cast of Stomp practicing moves in my skull the weather continues to suck some serious ass here.

It’s a balmy 10 C outside, looking east ward I can see the sun trying to burn through the clouds… I figure whenever it does that we’ll get those 40 degree temperatures they were promising.

Mind you, if all we have to complain about is the weather we’re doing okay. I am actually in the mood to do some celebrating despite the continued wet and shitty weather since I am actually able to post here for the first time in over a week.

It’s a good thing I had enough spare parts to rebuild the old computer when the new one decided to pack it in. We can be happy using “Frankenputer” until Intel sends us a new processor… and then we’ll have two machines to keep us occupied when the weather goes to hell.

Damn, I wish I had some snow coming here. It’s still blazingly hot and humid in Ohio. But some relief is expected on Monday. It’ll be in the high 80s instead of the mid 90s.

I hate Ohio weather.

Well, if you think our weather’s so keen, airdisc, you’re more than welcome to move here. Well, not Calgary, cause Calgary’s full, but Edmonton is pretty nice. Feynn and lolagranola might put you up until you find a place.

(Okay, that sounds a little snottier than I intended. Truly, people in hot places, if our weather was so enjoyable, would we be ranting about it on a message board? Winter is for cold, and summer is for hot. That’s just the way it’s supposed to be here.)

[wistful sigh]
Mmmm, moving to Canada…

I was thinking in terms of, say, Yellowknife. Tell me it’s sleeting there…

Mmmm, sleet

There’s snow in the passes already.

I don’t wish to discuss it any further. Duck Duck Goose, you are welcome to visit…although if you want to wallow in the snow, you’re on your own for that field trip.

Current Weather:

Conditions at Aug 04, 2002 - 10:54 PM CDT

Visibility 6 mile(s)
Sky conditions clear
Weather Mist
Temperature 75.9 F (24.4 C)
Dew Point 73.0 F (22.8 C)
Relative Humidity 90%

Get it? It’s “clear” weather, “visibility 6 miles”, but it’s also “mist”. When the temperature equals the dew point, then we say “water is condensing out of the sky”, or “it’s raining”. But when the temperature is just a teensy bit HIGHER than the dew point, we pluck uselessly at the clothes permanently stuck to our sweaty bodies, sob helplessly, and BEG for snow.

I mean, I have three big box fans running in the room with me, and with this much humidity, there is absolutely no effect. It’s exactly like running a fan in the locker rooms down at the Y.

[sobs]

Let it snow.

at least it isn’t still 94 degrees

Or, as a friend of mine referred to it, shithole/BF,E. In the words of Master Cecil, President of the SDMB, “You wanted peace? You wanted quiet? Shut up and deal.”

I think the weather’s in the 50s with high humidity, but remember that friend lives on an island with two other people, and her “neighbors” are a mile away. If you like solitude…

My sister lives in Yellowknife. As does punha’s friend, my niece. It’s a garbage pit populated by ravens and bears and in the winter, it’s too cold even for witch’s tits. Today’s forecast high is 19c, around 65f. While I may be melting and dying in the humidity here, I prefer this to 19c in August.

Duck Duck Goose, having spent 8 years in said pit, I put this to you: STAY SOUTH.

The dew point’s been hovering around 80 for the past week. Ginger, you don’t have A/C, do you? In this climate, that can be considered cruel and unusual punishment.

I fondly remember August 29, 1986. High 69, low 48 - tied the record low for the month. Ahh, for the good old days!

Say, I just popped in to deliver a truckload of sacrificial virgins to whatever Canadian Sky God was reading this thread, by way of a thank-you for sending us that lovely Arctic air mass.

Today’s high in Decatur was 82 degrees. Period.

I [heart] Canada.

I have a weird feeling that it snowed in May or June here… well, definitely at the end of April. I remember being caught in a snowstorm and nearly freezing.

Actually, I do prefer cold to heat. I’ll complain either way, but I do prefer the snowdrifts… you can build snow forts and drink hot chocolate. Why don’t you Albertans move to Toronto? We have reasonably mild weather here, and no snow right now.
