Weatherman libels weatherman

In central Ohio two Channel 4 weathermen are in a lawsuit. The details are very sparse at the moments, just that Bob Nunnally (who does the morning weather) says Jym Ganahl (chief meteorologist and evening weather) made false statements that injured him in his “trade or profession.” Since nobody knows what happened and he still has his job it doesn’t seem to have injured his career too much.

When I first saw the headline I thought it was the set up for a joke.

It got me thinking. I’ve never known any meteorologist. Do they “punk” each other? How? What did happen, and could happen with other meteorologists? Maybe Jym changed the weather map to show a picture from Bob’s bachelor party. (With strategically placed clouds to keep the forecast kid safe).

When I was in elementary school, there was a boy in my class whose dad was a meteorologist at Rutgers. He had a doctorate in the subject. One year, there was a big scandal because the friendly weatherman on a radio station (WOR, I think) who called himself “Doctor” whatever, didn’t have a doctorate, and somehow that information went public. I’m not sure he even studied it in college.

My classmate’s father made a big fuss about it in the newspapers. I think the radio weather guy eventually lost his job.

Sorry, but I can’t remember any names. It was during the 1970’s.

If you’ve ever seen the documentary Snow Day, you’d know that they do.
