I recently received a webcam for Christmas. It is capable of taking pics with a 640 x 480 resolution. This isn’t all that great, but if I could find a way to keep the pics small it would look better than it currently does. This is the problem I am having: Whenever I take a pic and open it up with any imaging software, the pic takes up a good part of my screen, presenting a very blocky image. Therefore the pics look better when I take them at a 320 x 240 resolution because when I open them up they take up less of the screen. Is there a way I can save my 640 x 480 pics in such a way that when I or someone who receives them opens them up, it will present a wallet size photo? If I could do this, I think I would have a much better result with the quality of the image. Any help with software that will allow me to do this would be most appreciated. Also, if I am unclear about what I am requesting, please ask and I will clarify further. Thanks.
If you are using MicroSoft PhotoDraw (Office 2000), you can simply select the actual size of the foto. Which should help a bit.
I am not on my personal computer, so I can not talk you through it right now, though…sorry.
I don’t have that particular program. Have Microsoft Office XP. Hoping to find a program that I can download - either freeware or shareware. I’m short of funds at that moment. Thanks for the help.
My tried and true favorite is a free little program called Irfan View. It is available on all of the usual download sites (zdnet, cnet etc…).
It is small and simple. Open the program, open your file. On the toolbar select “image” and then “resize” from the dropdown menu. You can double, or half the size with a single click, and keep halving or doubling until it looks good, or, you can enter a percentage of the original that you would like it to be, or even a “pixel X pixel” definition. When it looks good to you, just save it. Simple brightness, contrast and color corrections are a breeze also, as is cropping. Give it a try.
I also use Office XP, but I kept the PhotoDraw, but it is a really great photo program for the basic user and the more advanced user.
But I do not know where to get a local copy, try your local software store.
But I hate the free-ware or share-ware programs.
