I remember running across a website that let the user guess the race for a number of people, but now I can’t remember where I saw the site. Maybe it was a government site? Anyway, I remember doing the thing and seeing how wrong I was on my guesses.
The hard version (for me, anyway) is the version which has only Asians: All look same dot com. I am usually pretty adept at this sort of thing in meetings, but I pretty much failed their test.
I got 9 out of 6. I missed the first four not realizing that I should be picking multiple races.
Seems kind of a silly exercise. As a half-breed myself, I realize how difficult the various combinations can be to identify. Hell I have problems with people who are of the exactly same background as myself and vice versa.
Actually, that brings up an anecdotal point. Even with accents available, I didn’t learn everyone’s country of origin (in one notable case, I mistook a Greenlander for a Pacific Islander) for a rather long time. I’m still not sure I have everyone down pat.
