Websites

Just wondering, what is the first website you all go to, the minute you are logged on? Or what site must you always go to, each time you have logged on? Does it happen to be the SDMB? If not, what other site is it? And why do you go there everytime?

Sorry if this is stupid, but i’m just curious…=þ

The page I first see when I am logging on is “My Netscape”. My husband and I use netscape for our family e-mail, and he has everything set up so we mostly only have information we may be interested in seeing.

If I understand your question correctly, all you have to do to change your “home” page is change your settings on your PC.

Where you start when you log in is up to you.

well, my default start page is my yahoo. Before I head off to work, I do a cursory glance of my stock portfolio. If I don’t see anything horribly dramatic (99% of the time), I head off to work.

Once there, I check cnn.com to make sure the world didn’t end overnight. Then I go to yahoo again and get a detailed listing of stocks.

Then I’ll head over to espn.com, during baseball season at least, and check out the day’s columns.

During lunchtime, I’ll check out portalofevil.com, sfgate.com for the day’s local news, straightdope.com, and once in a while fool.com.

My home page is the Yahoo Mail log in page. After that, I always check the Straight Dope Home Page to read the divine wisdom of Cecil. I then follow the link to the SDMB, or if it’s a Saturday or Sunda, come straight here.

For a long time, those two sites were about all I went to on the web. My High Speed access was being used for simple, text based sites… and downloading MP3’s from Napster.

My home computer’s default is set to iwon.com…hoping to win some money. It’s actually pretty cool. I get news, weather and sports plus I fill out their survey everyday so it gets my brain in gear.

After that I check email, cruise over to local news sites then pop in here and the 3FMB, usually at the same time.

At my client’s office, it’s set to come up blank. There are so many different pages that I need to launch immediately without having to hit stop.

I never have time to have fun surfing the net at work, which sucks because they are on a full T1. I could blaze through the boards! Like you all would want that LOL.

I have to go to my own, to see what the stinking kids have come up with on it.

Usually SDMB, once I’m connected.

On a weekday when I get to work the order is:
[ol]
[li]ESPN.com for Rob Neyer’s baseball column (then anything else there that catches my eye)[/li][li]Slate.com for Today’s Papers (then anything else there that catches my eye)[/li][li]Salon.com to see if anything catches my eye (that seems to be getting rarer over time)[/li][li]Obscure Store to see what “wacky news” item the local morning show will be doing on the radio[/li][li]Pop into Straight Dope to see if any new columns have been posted - but I won’t get into the boards until after I have done some actual work.[/li][li]The Drudge Report because it provides a central location for many columnists I like to read.[/li][li]Then it is kind of freeform after that.[/li][/ol]

The page I have set for “Home” is The Hunger Site. After that, I usually make my way over here.

WWW.obscurestore.com is always good for a rise.

I usually set up my homepage to be the latest website I’ve made, but on my local drive. But in this case I haven’t done that for two reasons - the last one is at work, and not on my local drive (or live yet) - and the one before that has a stupid crappy midi file on it (I tried to avoid it but they insisted).

The first websites I visit are Aint It Cool News, and SDMB.
