Does it really have to be a choice between eloping and an elaborate ceremony?
I’ve been to several truly lovely, wonderful, and happy weddings that were done on very small budgets. I was recently a bridesmaid in a wedding in a backyard. They got their flowers at a grocery store (a farmers’ market is another great option), an ordained family friend officiated, and the friends and family brought a bunch of delicious food to share. It was a beautiful wedding, and in many ways all the more special because so many people contributed to making it great.
I’m probably biased, of course. I just got married in September, and we really had a blast planning everything. We did spend a lot of money (for us, anyway) but I wouldn’t change a thing. We love reminiscing about the day and having all those people who love us all together. As long as they’re included, your guests won’t care if you serve them filet mignon or homemade cupcakes. Trust me, everyone is there to see you get married and share in your happiness. I say a ceremony is well worth it.
