The other wedding song threads worked so well, I’m hoping to get good suggestions here. My son is getting married Octoer 3 and we’re still looking for songs. Candidates so far include: Rainow Connection by Kermit the Frog; Sunrise, Sunset; Daddy’s Little Girl, Dean Martin; and Song for My Daughter (we’re still looking up the lyrics on that one).
I saw a Dad/daughter dance to “Thank Heavens for Little Girls”- Maurice Chevalier, I believe. I thought it was really cute, it was nice that it was upbeat and not sappy or glurgy.
When I DJ a wedding and the groom is stumped for a mother/son song, I always suggest Baby Mine, which is the love song from Dumbo. Bonnie Raitt has a great version. Check it out and ignore the fact it’s from a movie called Dumbo!
I’m sorry dragongirl but my respect meter for you has been reset to zero. BUTTERFLY KISSES!!! UGH!!!
Que Sera Sera Doris Day is the standard version. Unforgetable Nat and Natile Cole, great for father daughter Hello Young Lovers (B’way standard)
I almost used Merry Christmas Alabama by Jimmy Buffet because the song is moving around and being physically far from home but still connected to home which really applied to my situation but I was certain that people wouldn’t get it.
If you must use something so sugary that it causes tooth decay there is always I am your Child by Barry Manilow.
As soon as the song started and my Dad walked towards me I started to cry (tears of sadness for anyone getting smart). The song truly made me feel like his little girl. AWWWW.
Ok dragongirl you have shown that losing my respect is a blow to you so that puts you back at 1 and you do have ‘dragon’ in your name and that’s kind of cool so that moves you back to 2.
You’re on your way girl.
Oh I ended up dancing with my mom to Moon River. Not my first choice but I could not find an appropriate version of Hello Young Lovers. They were all waaaaay tooooo fast.
Oh and I know this one guy who wanted to dance with his mom to American Pie. They did not, thank god but the reason is that they both loved that song and used to sing it together.
Hey, same here! I didn’t plan on having a father daughter dance, but the band started to play it and my dad made me dance with him. It was very sweet and a great choice if you don’t mind a slightly faster dance.
We danced to “Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing” by the Magnetic Fields. It’s a sweet song, but not overtly romantic. I also like Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable.”
Is there a song your son might associate specifically with you? Reason I ask is that I was just thinking about this, and I realized that when/if I get married, my song to dance with my dad to would be “Feelin’ Groovy” by Simon and Garfunkle. Probably not a standard father/daughter song, but it’s a song that will always be connected in my mind to my dad because he used to walk around the house singing it (other song he used to sing - “You May Be Right” by Billy Joel - not quite as appropriate).
