Weed goes legit - would you toke up?

Nope. I’ve never smoked ANYTHING, and cannot for the life of me see the attraction of pullin smoke into my lungs. Ugh.

You and others: I understand not wanting to risk losing your job or whatever it is for an illegal activity, but buying weed isn’t like picking up a hooker; you get it from your friends, so you know they’re not a cop, and it’s not like you would be smoking it outside in the park. Most likely, you and your friends would be in one of your homes, smoking on the sofa. I mean, I guess the cops could randomly knock on your door for a Weed Inspection, but when has that ever happened?

The risk is mostly during acquisition/transportation. Lot of drug arrests happen after traffic stops. Someone will have contraband on them, or in the vehicle, and either consent to a search, or do something to give an officer probable cause for a search.

Average “good enough” weed is around $75/oz in the southwest US.

I smoked a bit in college, stopped once I got to law school. Several lawyer friends I have still do smoke on occasion, though.

If it were legal, I would smoke instead of drink. I much prefer the marijuana buzz to the alcohol buzz.

Here in the Caribbean it’s often said that it causes mental problems - I think the reverse, that especially with young people, there’s a mental problem and the youth attempts to self medicate with ganja, only to exasperate their original problem. It’s certainly not for everyone.

If you have friends that sell good weed it’s not that big a problem I suppose. I don’t know anyone who sells it personally, but I know where to get it. That area gets busted a lot though, so in order to get it at least a little safer you have to have a middle man, and you have to pay that middle man extra, then you have to share if you want to do it more than once. You have to know people, because generally those guys come and go. You never know who will help you out and who won’t come back with your money, or will come back with half the product, claiming that’s all they were given.

Then you have the issue of having it on you in a car and being pulled over because Tennessee is not one of those states where they go easy on you for having a joint’s worth of smoke. Hell they’ll bust you for seeds and stems.

Not that I know anything about buying pot.

Well, let’s see. I figure I’ve lost more pot in my couch cushions than most people have seen in their lives so … yeah, why not, I’ll give it a go.

I’m thinking a pack of Maui Wowie 100’s wouldn’t be as fun as snagging a bag off Cheech on the other side of the tracks, but I’d be game.

I am one.

I tried it a few times back in my high school years [the 70s] and enjoyed it. To me it was like having a drink, but illegal. Since I could get booze at home and it was a lot less illegal [at the time more or less a stern talking to by the cops, compared to jail time with weed] booze won the toss.

If it wasn’t illegal, I would do weed now, because I really cant do a lot of drinking because I am diabetic and it is carbs with no purpose. I could get that one drink buzz without the carbs.

Not to mention, it would probably help migraines, and my insomnia.

Well whaddaya know? I guess I’m just a regular ol’ scofflaw. I don’t care for weed either way, but a lot (a lot) of my friends do. When they’re partaking, I generally say no, but every now and again will indulge. I’ve never thought “but this is illegal.” My desire, or lack thereof, is in no way affected by its “legitimacy.” Don’t call the cops!

I’d try pot in food, but wouldn’t want to smoke it – and if I liked it, or if it “worked” (say on migraine pain, as some say it does) I might use it every once in a while.

I did try it once smoked, decades ago, but nothing much happened to me but cottonmouth. Don’t know if it was crappy weed or if I didn’t inhale enough or what, but if it were legal, I’d try again to find out.

Until such time as cannabis is legitimized, I am starting my own little crusade to keep it out of the hands of kids. I will do this by purchasing the vile weed whenever/wherever I can and then burning the stuff.

Those who wish to help sponsor my Save the Children Crusade may send donations to me if they wish.

Wow, kayaker, you are one noble dude. I’d like to start a similar organization, but with the intent of keeping alcohol from minors. Together, we can keep our children safe.

Yep. Let’s thinka the kids!

MOL: I think we must have the same friends, ifyaknowwhatimean.

Nah, I’ve never even been tempted to try it. And now I’ve got so many responsibilities with kids and a job… I can’t think of a convenient time to be stoned. And, my wife would kill me.

Amazing how the voting is 52/48, but the comments are almost all NO.

Me, I smoked for 25 years and then quit because I couldn’t find it anymore and couldn’t afford it. Haven’t smoked in 7 years now. If it was legal, I would once again, but probably not nearly as much as when I was younger. OTOH the problem I always had with the good stuff was that I LOVED LOVED LOVED the taste of it so much that I always ended up smoking too much at one time.

I am calling the cops BIATCH…then running and partying with Kayaker:stuck_out_tongue:

I Kid MOL I KID…chilllax…and burn one!

tsfr

Well, I used to be the same kind of ol’ scofflaw you are! (Though I’m not mean; and I’m not old. . .well, OK, I am kinda old; and I’m not, y’know, all hot-looking and stuff).

But seriously, my hubby works for the federal gov’t. The job he’s in now just required regular old security clearance. But if he ever wants to move up a step, he’ll need a more in-depth clearance. Believe it or not, me getting busted for even minor possession would keep him from getting a promotion.

Yeah, the chances I’d ever get busted are slim. But it’s just not worth the risk, the idea that I did something that he doesn’t even do could cost him a promotion. I’ll stick to legal stuff for now. But I seriously think that decriminalization is coming to more and more states, and could legalization be far behind on the heels of that? I don’t imagine.

Priorities, MOL, priorities.

Like many here, I’d be interested in trying it (self-modulation of cognitive states has been of interest to me since I was medicated for depression and eventually weaned myself off it it) but won’t because of drug testing at work. The perils of government contracting, so I won’t touch the stuff.
