Totally forgot about the FSU-OKST game. Can I add that?
Sure. What’s your pick to LOSE?
OK State, Wisconsin and Texas A & M.
Good. I’ll fix it for you.
Since I have already made an exception in the case of Really Not All That Bright, I feel it’s only fair to offer to “correct” the votes for susan, jsc1953, Pai325, bump, astorian, JohnT, because each of you has failed to include one of the teams in at least one of the games where two Top 25 Teams are playing:
Texas A&M @ South Carolina (22)
Florida St. vs. Oklahoma St. (19)
Wisconsin vs. LSU (18)
The numbers in parentheses are total votes for both teams. As of this post there have been 23 voters.
==============================
Also, at this point, I’d like to propose a scoring method that you may want to comment on:
You pick them to LOSE and they LOSE: +2 points
You pick them to LOSE and they WIN: -1 point
You don’t pick them at all and they LOSE: -1 point
Unless I hear otherwise, that’s how I will be scoring things.
If the comments warrant such a thing, I’m willing to scratch this whole thread and start yet another where the scoring method will be made clear up front. Either that, or I will adjust the individual votes for those requesting such a thing, until next Wednesday the 27th.
===============================
If we do decide to scrap this thread, I propose the replacement will be the AP Preseason Top Ten games instead of this group. In fact, I have no objection to anyone wanting to start that sort of thread, regardless of how we proceed with this one.
I don’t wanna lose points because of a game that I didn’t make a call on. That doesn’t seem right.
Yeah, seems like that should be zero. Otherwise you are just rewarding people for guessing.
Noted.
I’m not a big fan of negative points at all. I’d prefer to just award points for correct choices…but whatever way you want to do it is fine. I see no reason to scrap it and start over.
Good idea. I’m thinking I’ll just provide the totals and let everybody decide what ought to be right. Too much shuffling of the dishes for the vittles involved…
Here’s how things look after 25 Voters:

Just a friendly reminder: POLL CLOSES in 24 hours – minus some minutes.
I called SCar to lose, but I wasn’t expecting such a shellacking at home. Wowza. Anything can happen in the SEC.
Down in Hotlanta, Ole Miss is struggling with Boise State–up 7-3 at the half, but they’ve been flagged for approximately eleventy-billion false starts, Bo Wallace has thrown 3 picks, and they lost a starting LB to an ejection for targeting.
If you don’t make a call, 0 points.
Glad I picked South Carolina to lose, though!
Suck it, Spurrier! In your house!

Except for the Louisville game, here are the results to help tally who did best (and worst) with the guesswork. Next week I plan to revert to the AP Top Ten games where once again we’ll be picking the Losers. Between now and then if you have a preference for scoring please say so.

25 87 3 1 1 4 1 9 4 5 3 1 (17) 19 1 1 15 1 1 /87
I went 4 for 4 this week, with a couple of nailbiters going my way in the end.
Indeed! I had you winning by my tally method. Hands down! Good guessing.
Question–will there be any way to score for correctly guessing that none of the top teams lose in a particular week? If we are only picking games involving the Top Ten, I think it could happen fairly often. If we continue to pick from games involving the Top 25, it is less likely…
It would seem probable that the only situation where “None of Them” would not apply would be if two Top Ten teams were playing each other. Otherwise “None of Them” would be a valid option in the poll.
Before next week’s games I’d like to establish some rules that everybody can feel are fair:
-
If you pick a team to lose and they win, -1 point
-
If you don’t pick a team to lose, and they lose, -1 point
-
If you pick a team to lose, and they DO lose, +1 point
-
If two Top Ten teams ARE playing each other and you don’t pick one of them to lose, -2 points! (-1 for each team!)
Please argue me out of this scoring method if you feel it’s not fair.
And if I missed a possibility, please point it out.
I don’t see anything unfair about it, but I’m not a huge fan of #2.
Doesn’t really matter much to me, though. I’ll be playing every week anyway, so score it however makes the most sense to you.
