I don’t see anything unfair about it, but I’m not a huge fan of #2.

Doesn’t really matter much to me, though. I’ll be playing every week anyway, so score it however makes the most sense to you.

I can understand not wanting to be penalized for not guessing a loser, but it seems to me it would cut down on “wild guessing” a tad. Hopefully others will weigh in by next week’s games.

BTW, it would appear that the Big Ten and PAC-12 are ahead in the Conference Rankings, based on College Football Standings, 2024 season - ESPN (with some games yet to be played). I haven’t found any “official” statement(s) yet, probably due to the incomplete nature of things. Once we’re another week or two into things, there ought to be some source with reliable numbers to help decide who’s ahead in the Playoff thinking.

It would seem probable that the only situation where “None of Them” would not apply would be if two Top Ten teams were playing each other. Otherwise “None of Them” would be a valid option in the poll.

Before next week’s games I’d like to establish some rules that everybody can feel are fair:

1. If you pick a team to lose and they win, -1 point

2. If you don’t pick a team to lose, and they lose, -1 point

3. If you pick a team to lose, and they DO lose, +1 point

4. If two Top Ten teams ARE playing each other and you don’t pick one of them to lose, -2 points! (-1 for each team!)

Please argue me out of this scoring method if you feel it’s not fair.

And if I missed a possibility, please point it out.

The easiest/fairest is:

You pick a team to lose, and they lose, +1 pt.
You pick a team to lose, and they win, -1pt.
If you miss a loss, no points deducted
If you skip ranked vs. ranked, -1 (assuming you played that week). (Not -2)

I think punishing people for not picking a loser will eventually result in zero players in this game - what fun is that? What happens if you miss a week because of job/personal issues, and you therefore earn a -7? I tell you what happens - you stop playing the game for the rest of the season. You pick four correctly, don’t pick another four that lost, resulting in zero points gained… who’s going to want to continue to play a game where you made correct choices but still get punished?

If you think it’s important to that weekly participants pick among ranked-teams playing ranked-teams and you feel you have to deduct points, then do a -1, not -2. Only one team lost, right?

Based on the replies from Oakminster and JohnT, I won’t count the “no picks” in the scoring, which leaves it at:

1. You pick a team to lose, and they lose, +1 pt.

2. You pick a team to lose, and they win, -1pt.

3. If you skip ranked vs. ranked, -1 (assuming you played that week).

4. If you miss a loss, no points deducted.

I won’t be maintaining a week-to-week scoring tally. Last year, armedmonkey took care of that task and I would hope he (or somebody else) would continue that this year. Volunteers?

Assuming the AP Poll comes out Tuesday, I hope to have the next weekend’s poll up soon thereafter. Wednesday at the latest.

If there are other tricks we need to incorporate in this year’s scoring or how things are managed, please say so as early as you think of it / them.

Realizing it’s a bit more work for you, but any chance we could keep the Top25 instead of dropping to the Top10? It made it a lot more fun and gave us more matchups to play with.
