I’m down by 24, and I have two possible subs with Sunday night and Monday game to go:
Reggie Bush or Joseph Addai?
New Orleans or San Francisco D?
I think New Orleans is more likely to put up a big score than SF, but the real key will be Bush or Addai. Right now I got Bush in. I think he’s more likely to have a monster game (I probably need at least 1 td, 100 yards, 2 TD’s is much more likely since the other team still has Austin Collie to go.) So, which RB is more likely to put up a homerun game? If Addai puts up his usual 80 yards, 1 td, I might be ok. If bush puts up his usual 100 combined yards, no td’s, couple receptions, I’m doomed.
But, after more thought, if you drafted McNabb as you’re starter and you had to pick up Vick off the WW as your main backup, you’re probably already screwed before the season started.
Crabtree: Alex Smith is ineffectual this year and they’re facing an above average defense in New Orleans. I would sit him even if he’s the #1 WR.
Bowe: This is after the fact, but Bowe is the #2 in KC this year (32-year-old Chris Chambers is the starting WR1.) I wouldn’t start him (and I took him out of my starting lineup this week for Legedu Nanee. Bowe got 7 more points than him) even though he’s facing a great matchup in Cleveland. They’re not letting Cassel throw deep for some reason. That Chambers was able to get the WR1 says something about Bowe’s ability. I expect to drop him soon.
Garcon: He is Indy’s WR2. Repeat: He is Indy’s #2 WR. He will be on the field for nearly all their plays. You know who’s Indy’s QB? Yep. That peyton guy. You know who was the old #2? Reggie Wayne. That Garcon was able to beat out Austin Collie and Anthony Gonzalez says something. Austin Collie will get catches, but he’s only (usually) on the field in 4 receiver sets.
Summary: Indy’s #2, #3, and even #4 receivers are better than nearly all other #2 wr’s in the league, and if their QB sucks, #1 WR’s too. Garcon had a few drops and a bad week 1, but I would always start Peyton’s #2 WR over Alex Smith’s #1 or Matt Cassel’s #2.
Ug, I looked at both their game records for the past 3 years, and Addai has more multi-TD games, more yards, etc. Bush has never had a monster game, ever, but Addai pulled off a 4td game.
Haha, I was intently watching Eddie Royal hoping he’d outperform CJ so I wouldn’t look like a fool, which is always a distinct possibility. But as you said, CJ will get his. He’ll have his 150 yard game sometime this season. I just didn’t think it would be this week.
It’s a dynasty league. Last year I drafted McNabb as my starter and Brett Favre and Kyle Orton as backups. I traded Favre away and picked up Vick last year for like $6 in FAAB money.
In addition to what RNATB said, it doesn’t say anything about Bowe’s ability. It [in this case, Bowe’s lack of numbers] says something about Cassel’s ability, as well as Bowe’s off-field/season shenanigans with the coaching staff.
Bleah, looks like I’m going to lose. With only my New Orleans D left to play (their players are all done,) I’m down by 21 where the average defensive score is ~12. I might have had a chance if I played Bowe instead of Nanee but I would still be down 12, but I have no regrets there. Everybody in SD had monster games except Nanee, so I made the right call but had bad luck. MJD screwed me with a 5 point effort, while their Pitt defense put up a monstrous 33 points. My other RB’s averaged like 12 ppg (with Bush still to play but on the bench.) If Pitt had scored the average 12 instead of 30, it would be an easy win, imho.
Hal - you can’t sweat a loss like that. MJD’s performance was rough for a lot of people, and you can’t expect a win with that when your opponent’s DEF puts up that ridiculous score. Nanee v. Bowe was a toss-up, with Nanee getting a solid edge due to QB, and last week’s numbers.
The one thing I’ve learned the last couple years that have increased my enjoyment of fantasy football is to stop sweating everything. People have bad weeks, and you’re bound to leave a bunch of points on the bench at least 5 times during the season. The last one always killed me - which is why I really like the auctions I’ve been in this year. I’ve really abandoned my bench, for better or for worse. I spent the money on my starters, and I’ll stick by them until my $1 lottery tickets pay off (if they ever do).
