I can’t decide whether to sit or start Calvin Johnson. He had a bad performance last week, he has a new QB this week (although the backup did find him in the end zone) and he’s very likely to be covered by Assante Samuel. Alternates would be Beanie Wells or Eddie Royal in the flex on one team, or Legandu Nanee on the 2nd team (with Knox and Aromadoshu in FA.)
Don’t overthink this – CJ is the correct, easy answer. You might be able to make a case for Beanie Wells, except he’s coming off an injury and will probably have a limited role in Week 2.
If it was a small league, and it was between CJ and Welker - maybe, but only because Welker has an interesting matchup. But Royal shouldn’t even be a consideration. Megatron did just fine with Dan Orlovsky throwing to him a few years ago. Start your studs.
You can’t get jumpy after the first game. Calvin Johnson is the right pick for this week, despite his performance last week (partly due to QB issues). Andre Johnson was one of the highest ranked WRs going into the draft and he was a disappointment in Week 1 as well but I have faith he’ll come through.
I don’t get all the love for Calvin Johnson. He had a ton of lousy games last year, he’s no Andre Johnson. What if his career curve mirrors Braylon Edwards?
In a PPR league that counts return yards, like mine, I would certainly consider Eddie Royal over CJ.
What if it mirrors Andre Johnson’s, who also had a disappointing third season? Or what if we just base it on the fact that CJ is one of the most physically dominating WRs in the NFL, and he’ll get his?
“PPR” has nothing to do with counting return yards, it stands for “Points Per Reception”. If you’re in a league that adds return yardage (which most do), it doesn’t have anything to do with being PPR. And Royal wouldn’t be all that more valuable in a league that counts return yardage, since the Broncos seem pretty happy with Perrish Cox as both kick and punt returner.
I think he’s simply making the point that his league awards points for both receptions and return yardage - although it’s true that Royal didn’t do any returning last week.
McNabb’s was drafted as my starter, but Vick had a great game last week and he’s playing the Lions on Sunday. My brain says McNabb, but my guy says Vick.
People absolutely called Johnson a must-start back then. There were certainly concerns about his TD potential because David Carr sucked, so those in TD-only leagues should be wary, but Andre Johnson has been a “must-start” fantasy projection most of his career - *certainly *his Year 3 and beyond. Calvin Johnson is a stud, plain and simple. He tosses DBs aside like they were paper mache.
I think it’s a gimme. Washington has yet to prove itself a passing team, McNabb or not. I think if both of those games were played 15-20 times, their scores would be about the same - but Vick has a much better chance of breaking off a huge game. If you’re comfortable with the potential consistency out of the rest of your team, I’d go Vick.
You mean your penis? Looking at Peyton’s production last week, it appears that the Texans minus Dunta Robinson might present as good a QB matchup as the Lions this year. Especially considering that there’s zero chance that the Redskins get so far ahead that they stop passing.
A fair point, but I don’t think McNabb will get rid of the ball as quickly as Peyton (who still got knocked down like 10 times), AND Shanahan hasn’t really let anyone pass since Elway. I’m curious to see if McNabb will find someone to click with, and believe it’s a push, but still think that Vick has higher upside tomorrow.
The 'Skins receiving corps may not be any good, but it’s certainly no worse than 90% of the personnel groups McNabb had to work with on the Eagles over the last 10 years.
Shanahan certainly let Cutler air it out a lot. I think we can all agree that McNabb is a bit more of a proven quantity, and he attempted 32 passes last week.
And yet he was still the only player with at least 50 receptions to catch fewer than 50% of his targets and was outperformed last year by Hines Ward, Derrick Mason and a whole host of other non “must-start” players.
I think he’s a stud too, and with a great quarterback could put up some eyepopping numbers, but I just don’t think he’s immune to playing the matchups.
I’d say Vick because of the matchup with Detroit, and Mcnabb has a gimpy ankle. Also, watching the game, the Eagles have a team this year. Vick also looked great throwing. The receivers looked like they were getting shot.
That’s not a good thing. It means he still can’t throw the touch pass, and Philadelphia runs a catch-and-run offense, which requires the QB to lead receivers, not to knock them over.
I think he’ll do okay just because of the matchup, though, and particularly running the ball.
Justin Forsett, Brandon Jackson or Brandon Jacobs as a flex? The Colts gave up huge yardage on the ground last week, but right now I’ve got Jackson penciled in.
Tough one. Jackson isn’t splitting carries, but Rodgers may want to prove something (or at least develop some solid chemistry). Jacobs has a soft defense to run into, but Eli may need to throw it 45 times. I’m not even considering Forsett there. I’d stick with Jackson - I always lean towards the single back offenses.
My RB1 and 2 in that league are MJD and Marion Barber. I’m wondering if I should bench Barber for Jacobs after looking at Chicago’s rush defense last week.
