Weekly Comic Book Discussion 10/5/2006

I’ve completed given up on Civil War since Sue Richards breached Godwin’s law.

I’m think Supernova = Rebuilt Eradicator.

After all, somebody is goofin’ with Robots & Mad Scientists…

Believe me. I wasn’t saying that the entirety of the pro-reg side was being portrayed as sympathetic. Straczynski just made Reed mildly sympathetic. He also provided some motivation for Reeds actions. That’s far more than Millar has done.

Has anything really been explained about the odd characterization change in Booster prior and post his return from the future? I mean, let’s just forget that it’s never explained how he returns to the future. But prior to him leaving, Booster had developed into a mostly sincere guy that kicked himself for being so shallow and not seeing the death of people he cared about coming because he had never bothered to learn about it. When he returns with the unexplained new Skeets, though, he seems briefly heroic in helping to take out Brother Eye, but then back to being mostly shallow and not a big-picture thinker. It just has always seemed off.

Booster being Supranova is still my favorite theory, but the fact that Cassie thought it was Kon-El hurts that big time: even if it isn’t some version of Kon-El, it’d be pretty hard to mistake the two guys.

’Tec - I love the Penguin going legit, if not strictly straight. I also love it for Riddler. I think Alfred has a cruel sense of humour, judging from the date he set up for Bruce. (Although he might as well have actually used Paris Hilton as close as the chick was.)

Nightwing - A step up from the last arc, and now we know why the Monitors are watching Dick. But it would have been nice if Wolfman hadn’t ENTIRELY ignored Jones’ arc (which I didn’t think was so horrible, to begin with).

Outsiders - Well. I refuse to believe Mallah and Brain are dead…after all, they survived getting blown up back in Doom Patrol. And we get some extra insight into why Thunder was so upset that Grace never told them what she was. Last page…was I the only one who thought ‘Oh my god, it’s the Green Goblin! … With tits!’? (Please say I wasn’t…)

This week I got:

Hulk #99 (Best comic on the shelf right now IMO)
The Boys #3
Futurama #27

Week before that I got

Usagi Yojimbo #97
Uncle Scrooge #358

Week before that I got

Conan #32
Conan and the Songs of the Dead #3
Star Wars: KotOR #8
Ghost Rider #3
Civil War #4

I buy comics every week, but I knew there was a reason I never open these threads. I think it’s because we have different taste in comics.

Could Supernova be…Mon-El? Powers fit…

And who’s the 3rd Kryptonian?

Wasn’t Supernova teleporting things and people away in the earlier issues?

“Teleporting” could actually be “superspeed”.

Mystery in Space - The Comet story is interesting, interesting shuffling of his power set. The Weird is where I really have a comment - have the inhabitants of Hardcore really never even heard of intagibility? Granted, it’s not the most common power in the DCU, but it’s not unknown. And usually a racial trait where it shows up.

The visual manifestation is WAY off for it to be a superspeed deal. I’m not saying it’s not Mon-El, there’s definitely some plans in the works for him in Legion, but if it IS Mon-El, then he’s wearing a suit that grants teleportation abilities.

And the baiting of Booster seems awfully unlike Mon-El to boot.
