When they reveal what the connection to the old (“real”) Guardians of the Galaxy, let us know. I’m interested… but not enough to buy it.
Wonder Woman - the rightmost cover WW looked a bit too anime-ish for my taste, but fortunately it did not carry over inside. I don’t really think this in media res story structure started well, although it has promise.
Superman - seems like we’ve had quite a few Superman Year One(-ish) stories lately, tho’ they’ve all been good.
Booster Gold - he wears all that under his disguise-uniform? even the cape? seriously? and other than Barda and (maybe) Prime vs. the GLs, I might like this continuity better, actually.
I picked up Guardians of the Galaxy too. It was pretty good, amusing in spots, but I hate the whole business with what’shername’s prophecy. I really didn’t need that hanging over the strip for probably two or three years.
Titans - Oh, gods below, they found an artist who’s worse than Churchill… Ironically, though, he does breasts fairly well. Too bad he didn’t put that kind of attention into the faces (except Raven’s which looks good in a few panels) and the men’s bodies. I’d like to see Gar’s new costume done by somebody better. Judd needs to work on some of the characters voices, but the dialogue was fun. (I was fond of the exchange between Kori and Donna while the boys were bickering, even if Donna’s line was very odd. It got my Yuri-senses tingling, so all is forgiven… >_>)
Superman - Nice issue. A little insubstantial, but nice. Played up Clark’s klutziness a bit much, but still suggested he was competent (if not up to Lois’s level). The conversation between Superman and Lantern at the end brought a smile to my face.
Everybody’s Dead - Grabbed the first 3 issues since I somehow missed the first two the first time around. Pretty funny stuff. I kind of want to smack Wes around until he shuts up, but that’s fine. ‘We gave the zombie the munchies!’ Shoulda known that was coming, dude.
Final Crisis Sketchbook - Not a comic, per se, but interesting. The New Gods 5th World designs are nice. I’m particularly fond of Orion, and how Lightray is described (the sketches don’t suggest well how it’ll work). And Granny Goodness.
Wonder Woman - Oooh, so that’s who he is. Funky.
Un-Men - Well…this arc is over at least. I was getting very annoyed with Aidanadia, and the accompanying comments from all the characters. Generally enjoyed the rest, though. JJ, especially.
New Wildguard. Reprints, mostly, but a good jumping on part.
Batman Confidential. Batgirl versus Catwoman, Babs and Selina, good inside and outside perspective.
Batman - Not much happening, so far, but, not a bad setup. I do like the villains. They’re delightfully odd looking.
newuniversal - Shockfront - It’s finally back! Goddamn it Warren, why can’t you keep a schedule? A little much on the ‘new here? Or just completely forgotten what we did with the first run?’ exposition, but… It’s good to have it back, anyway.
Gen13 - Well…it had its good points and its bad points. The worst point is the art. Especially awful as it was a random change in the last issue of the arc.
Iron Man #1 (new series): pretty good. I have one question though, if one is able to use less calories, wouldn’t that excess “energy” and I use the word loosely, translate into more fat. Wouldn’t he just become the blob, er, I mean The Blob? He can call himself Flesh Man, too, I suppose (though one would think that Iron and Carbon are more opposites, or whatever…this thought isn’t going anywhere). I enjoy this Tony Stark a little better than the glimpses I’m seeing of him in other books, where he seems more of a straight-lined Nick Fury. Where is ol’ Nick anyway? I haven’t seen him around in any of my browsing.
Buffy: Poor Xander, that’s what you get for dating a red shirt. Actually, I do feel for the character. Just when he gets something going on…impalement, and not in a good way. I was laughing my ass off when they brought dawn unto the scene. Good isssue.
Angel: Either my adult ADD or my Alzheimer’s is kicking in, I forgot which, but this story telling is confusing, especially since the drawings don’t look exactly like who they are IRL. All these incomplete stories of what the heroes did after the fall isn’t a revealing and as insightful as I had hoped. I still enjoy it though and I am eagerly awaiting the next issue.

Nick’s sneaking around trying to whomp up people to fight the Skrulls. In a move that’s both odd and kinda desperate, he’s in blackface now, looking like Mr. Sam Jackson. And he’s still got the eyepatch, which is silly.
Huntress. I gave it a shot and it sucked. Know better next time.
**Green Lantern Corps: ** Very very awesome, and it really made me want to see what’s next, which I haven’t in a comic for a while that didn’t involve a “surprise reveal”.
**Thunderbolts: ** Warren Ellis is a god. I haven’t laughed out loud at a comic in a long time. And he made the Green Goblin scary and dangerous, which I didn’t think anyone could do.
I like the evil luchador in the suit; much cooler looking than Bane despite starting from essentially the same concept.
Am I correct in thinking that this is Morrison continuing the League of Batmen story he did a little while ago? That was the only chunk of his Batman run that I liked before and I’m interested in where he’s going with this even if it’s likely to read much better in trades.
I’m suspecting that Batman: RIP may lead to Bruce Wayne dropping the Batman role for a while which could make an interesting continuing story…
If it’s not, he’s dropping a lot of red herrings - they all appear to be enemies of the Club of Heroes, they’re working with the Black Glove, and one of the covers that’s been used as a preview uses the same ‘hand’ iconography that popped up at several points in the Club of Heroes story.
Onto more books!
Green Arrow/Black Canary - Least favourite issue of the series, yet. Sort of the polar opposite of Titans. While Judd’s got a fairly good grasp on everyone’s voices, they’re acting out of character more - Dinah tossing Dodger from the plane to ‘keep him honest’ and apparently to test the anti-gravity boots, for instance. Still enjoying the story, though, and the last page was amusing. And the art is gorgeous.
Spider-girl - I swear, half this issue was devoted to nothing but taking the piss out of 616. (‘Ew, organic webs!’ ‘Whose side are you on?’ ‘Brand New May’, etc) Entertaining, though, although May’s acting like a twit.
