Weezer's "Pork & Beans" video

[QUOTE=ZebraShaSha]
Well, he now thinks it is great. Also of note, “I never seriously entertained the idea of breaking up the band.”

That’s a Pitchfork interview from back in January, when Alone was released. All of you Weezer fans, especially Pinkerton fans, should check it out.

Thanks for the link. Quite a departure from what he said before:

[QUOTE=Rivers Cuomo]
“ It’s a hideous record… It was such a hugely painful mistake that happened in front of hundreds of thousands of people and continues to happen on a grander and grander scale and just won’t go away. It’s like getting really drunk at a party and spilling your guts in front of everyone and feeling incredibly great and cathartic about it, and then waking up the next morning and realizing what a complete fool you made of yourself.

(from Pinkerton wiki )

I’m glad he came to appreciate it as much as his fans did. Hell, even my 17-year-old sister-in-law loves Pinkerton. Released in 1996. Shit. I feel old.

At the 2:39 mark, there’s at least one “celeb” who’s fake. In the upper left part of the shot, you get a glimpse of Dumbledore from the Potter Puppet Pals. Weezer created him because they were supposed to have the real PPP in the video, but they got lost by FedEx! They made it home safely, though, after the shoot was over.

I can’t spot him.

Oddly moving.

That was my reaction. I think it’s because they’re giving support and validation to a lot of people who’d previously been the subject of public ridicule.

I read that Rivers also hated the album because of how embarrassingly personal it is. I have to say Pinkerton is one of my favorites, but I can embrace Weezer in all its manifestations–I loved Maladroit, which I think is the perfect blending of the earnestness of Pinkerton with the cleaner sound on The Green Album. I can get down to anything they put together. I never understood music fans who reject new albums because they sound different. Those are my favorite kinds of albums–I like being surprised. I am so excited about this new album I can’t think straight. I will probably love it no matter what.

Different doesn’t automatically mean good. Rivers made his later efforts different, but crappy.

I mean…can you honestly listen to Beverly Hills and not say it’s one of the worst songs of the past few years?

Here’s a phrase I’ve uttered twice, I think, since 1995: “That was a good music video.”

I didn’t get most of the references, but I got some. It was funny, it was creative, and it’s guaranteed to be a huge hit on YouTube. The version linked in the OP has more than 2.6 million views and I’m sure there are a bunch of versions floating aroud.

It’s Millenial Punk!

I don’t give a fuckbout.

Here.
That’s the blog of Neil (creator of PPP) and the first comment has a screencap.

It’s super easy to miss, but once you see him once, you’ll see him every time.

Also, I think Beverly Hills is a very heartbreaking song. Knowing that you’ll never have the fame and stardom that comes to people considered “cooler” than you.

There was no excuse for Make Believe. One of the worst albums ever made; it doesn’t have a single redeeming song on it.

Blue and Pinkerton = Awesome
Green = OK
Maladroit = Good

My thoughts exactly. Make Believe was a complete waste of ten bucks for me - I listened to it a couple times, then never again.

Fortunately, this video is so good that I’m actually liking Weezer again. :smiley: I downloaded Pork and Beans and The Greatest Man That Ever Lived, both of which are awesome (especially The Greatest…). Could they finally be back with the red album?

Yes, I really can, because I think it’s a good song. When I first heard it I didn’t like it, because it didn’t sound authentically Weezer, but after listening to it a few times you can still hear all that self-conscious angst driving the tune, and I like it. I thought Make Believe had a lot of good songs on it.

Weezer’s mind-blowingly excellent albums:
Blue Album, Pinkerton, Maladroit

Weezer’s good albums:
The Green Album, Make Believe

I haven’t seen any suck come from Weezer. Red Hot Chili Peppers or Aerosmith, well that’s another story…

I got hooked on this video, and found out all about this wonderful thing called Weezer. I knew there was a band by that name and they had a dorky Van Halen-copied logo and assumed they were a novelty band… but suddenly I’m completely into their mad brand of power pop.

He’s naked, of course. I’m not surprised.
