Rivers Cuomo is a jerk-off...

I have always held a special corner of my heart for Weezer. They make awsome music. Then I got the new issue of guitar world…

This guy is an ate up dips**t. At the end of the article he goes on about how he hates fans and never talks to any of Weezers fans because they are all annoying. He wouldnt go to the the location to get his picture taken for the cover so they had to take his pic in his hotel room and cut him out against a redd background for the cover.

If you havent read this article and love Weezer, don’t pick up Guitar World this month. It will put a dent in your love.

Was this dude always such an ass?

I had kind of the same feeling when I picked up their second CD. The first one was this wonderful, insecure, geek-rock masterpiece. A lot of the songs on Butterfly fit more in the “horny jerk” category.

Then after 5 years, we get a third CD, packed full of 28 minutes of freaking music. They may as well have called it “F.U.”, the message to their fans was clear enough.

I just hope we continue to hear from the Rentals. Their second album was just plain awesome.

I saw Weezer live a couple months ago and Rivers did seem a little “Bleh.” Was kind of a put off.

I still like their music and I really loved Pinkerton.

I like him for the bitch that he is!!!..he’s anti-social to begin with… you read in the article, life revolves around music. He doesn’t go out much and also if you know anything about Weezer, it kinda hurt him that Pinkerton was not accepted by his fans at first because that album was so personal to him (now there’s like a cult following to that album)…that’s why when he gets requests for it, he kinda gets pissed off and doesn’t want to play it.

I actually found the article amusing…I guess it doesn’t affect true hardcore fan like myself…it still doesn’t change me loving WEEZER…my favorite band…ROCK ON…

Yeah he does seem a little aloof and just wants to play music. I was kinda shocked when I picked up their last cd and it was only 28 minutes long, but hey what can you do. The songs from their upcoming album (it’s coming out in a few months I believe) are really good. I saw them live a few months ago and they do put on a good show. I’m not worried about what he thinks, they still play great music.

I liked Weezer when I saw them in December, they did some weird things though, like why open a show up with a new song?? They only played one song from Pinkerton(thank God) and they played like 4 new songs which I assume are going to be on the new album coming out next month. I still love the band and love the music. Go Weezer =W=

I have to say it and Im sure someone will back me up. Pinkerton is by far my favorite album by weezer. The first album is fun and a great cd but lacks real passion. Pinkerton is fun and depressing and shows a more mature Weezer. I saw an article with Rivers Cuomo after Pinkerton came out and he said something to the effect of people really liked the first album and kept saying they want to hear more personal songs. So they went into the studio and did Pinkerton. Fans hated it but critics loved it. Fact is… you can’t win.

I say blue and green albums are fun but lack substance.

I totally agree with you pezpunk. To me, the blue and green album was just made for radio and so…poppy (not that I’m complaining or anything). The pinkerton album was so personal and deep and something about that I love. I hear people complaining about the length of the green album (28min) and I say it’s not ‘quantity’ it’s the ‘quality’ baby!! I’d rather hear 28 min of great music rather than 45 min of extended crap…my thoughts…

I have the blue album…I’d never heard them until the band I used to be in decided to cover “Buddy Holly” to fill some space in our set (and as a horn player at the time anyway, I wasn’t too involved in that song). I like the blue album, and I may check out Pinkerton sometime. I can’t really stand to listen to the blue album too often, though, because there’s not a single interesting bass line that I can recall, and without that, you’ve lost me.

As for Rivers seeming like a jerk…well, maybe. On the other hand, I can’t say I wouldn’t be the same way in his position- I apparently come off as anti-social sometimes.

I’m a casual Weezer fan: I have the Blue ablum, saw them on the Pinkerton tour, and generally like their singles. But why the hell is there a Weezer tribute album? I was in shock when I saw it in Bullmoose (an indie chain in ME/NH) on Sunday. There are tons of more established, and more sucessful, bands, so why do they get this treatment? Then again, I’ve only heard of one Band on the CD(the Ataris) so maybe it’s not such an honor after all.

Goes to show how influential their music are…there’s TWO tribute albums out there by the way…hehe

One more vote here for Pinkerton, although I don’t prefer it over the blue album, I just really like both of them. The Blue album is hummable and gets completely stuck in your head and stands up tp repeated listening. Pinkerton is more sporadic and sloppy, but I like the realness of it. And he’s certainly very honest about his self-hatred. And how funny is “Butterfly?” Really funny, that’s how funny.

Haven’t heard the Green album.

As for why there are already tribute albums…I thought it was a little silly too, but think about it. Weezer is a band that most people can agree on. They’re like the Beatles of indy rock…even though their not indy and that comparison sounds really lame, but I think you know what I mean. Whether you’re normally into harder stuff or softer stuff or weirder stuff, chances are you like Weezer. Their songs are also simple enough that a lot of new bands probably already have 5 or 6 good Weezer covers down pat. So it wasn’t a long step to a covers album.

By the way, has anyone heard either of the cover albums? Are they any good?

By the other way, Rivers Cuomo has a massive thing for Asian girls (“thing” meaning “interest in,” not “cock”), and my bandmate was telling me about a translated interview with Rivers the last time he came through Tokyo. He conducted the interview surrounded by five nubile Japanese girls. At the end of the interview he said “Alright, get out. It’s time to have sex.”

True? Maybe not. Good story? Yeah. Jealous?

Oh…a tad…

Is Bill Waterson an asshole too?

and Pinkerton is very, very good.

I do infact own BOTH cover albums so I guess I’ll share some highlights from them.

As for the Making Noise: Tribute To Weezer Album, most of the songs sound the same as weezer but some, like No One Else has a techno beat to it (pretty funky), Devotion is slowed down (and really nice), Good Life is more punk rock, a very funky version of Sweater Song. The rest are mostly the same except for some girls singing the songs.

Tribute Weezer : Weezer Tribute-Rock Music is as you can probably tell by the bands on it, is REALLY hard rock…a real good tribute. Some highlights include Jamie by Dashboard Confessional is a great acoustic version, Susanne is pretty rockin’, Only in Dreams is rockin’ (but the original is THE best).

Hope this helps…I really like both of them…can’t say which is better…

I was hugely disappointed by the recent tribute, whatever it was called, from Dead Droid. Blargh. None of the bands invested any creativity into their covers at all. I was especially disappointed with Piebald’s effort on No One Else, them being one of my favorite bands. Almost all the vocalists on the album mimicked Rivers’ every vocal idiosyncracy, and it ended up sounding like a bunch of second-rate bands trying to sound as much like Weezer as they could, which is sad, since all those songs have so much potential.

reoch, I would disagree with the statement that it is ‘REALLY hard rock.’ Especially since the first song you mention is by Dashboard, about as far from hard rock as you can get. The Ataris cover of Butterfly was atrocious. I thought the better songs were actually the harder ones, mostly by the lesser-known bands. Glasseater’s Holiday, Grade’s Surf Wax America and Affinitiy’s My Name Is Jonas were all slightly more punk-y versions of the originals, although they were still pretty close to carbon copies.

And by the way, elfkin477, many people have heard of these bands and many of them are actually quite well-respected. The Impossibles are (were :frowning: ) among the most highly regarded indie rock bands out there. Dashboard Confessional gets almost universal critical acclaim. So just because you haven’t heard of them doesn’t mean they don’t matter. I know you didn’t really say that, but I’m offended because there are a couple really good bands on there that you’re dismissing.
On preview, and another listen-through, you’re right about one thing, reoch, Midtown’s Susanne is pretty good, although it could have used another visit or two from the mixing fairy. Ehh, who am I kidding. I’m just pissed off that the Piebald song sucked. I had advance notice about the Impossibles song being a disappointment, since they released their cover of The Good Life on their own site a while before the tribute came out, but I was looking forward to hearing this album, and I felt really let down.

The thing about Cuomo that pisses me off is because I, too, am a Pinkerton fan, but I’ve read more than one interview where he’s basically called them younger and more immature - saying that’s why they appreciate how emotional the album is. Uh, no… I appreciate how emotional the album can be because it makes it INTERESTING. The Green Album was just disappointing because it had no heart to it. The lyrics meant nothing, and while that was the point according to Cuomo, it definitely meant they lost something to me.

Say It Ain’t So is the second best song in the world. So I’ve never been able to figure out why I like NOTHING ELSE by Weezer.

WhoopsWhite Lightning, what I meant to say was that the Tribute Weezer : Weezer Tribute-Rock Music was really rock compared to the other tribute album…my bad.

Anyone seen them live? I saw a live video over the weekend and it looked kind of boring, but I didn’t watch the whole thing. Do they really just stand there and do nothing the whole time?

I saw a video of them live and he seems nicer. I just think he was real shy and the rrasin he was dissin his fans might be because they asked him to make a more personal album, but when he did they didn’t like it

Pinkerton is my favorite though
