The staggered points is a strange deal happy camper. Here we are given set food points according to weight. But, as Anahita mentioned, she staggers hers. We, too, can do activities to earn extra points. Even though I walk most days, I never use the points to eat more.

I am curious to see if actual food points are the same, or at least similar.

If I list a few general items and their points, would one of you US WW peeps post with point value as well?

Bacon = 1 pt for 20g (streaky is what they have in the US)
Cheddar = 4.5 pts for 40g
Chicken breast = 2.5 pts for 165g
Cottage cheese = 2 pts for 110g or 1.5 pts for low fat
Eggs - 1.5 pts for 1 small or medium
Mayo = 2 pts for 1TBS, or 1 pt for low fat
Peanut butter = 3.5 pts for 1 TBS
Tuna = 1 pt for 70g (in brine)

Just curious.

** Washte** here Peanut butter is 2pts for 1TBS. I’m sorry for not knowing the other ones…but I’m not good at converting grams to ounces. Actually, that would be ounces to grams.

Well - another week on the program. I was ridiculously surprised this week! I lost 3.2 pounds (and TMI warning…I even have my period!) I was so excited! So now its 12.8 pounds down.

The really cool part is I’m 1/2 way to reaching my 10% mark! It seems like a goal that is within reach now!

Keep up the great work guys!!!

skittles, I’ve worked out the approximation for the grams to ounces. Does this help?
40g = 1.5oz
70g = 2.5oz (approx)
110g = 4oz
165g = 5.75oz (approx)

Must admit I did a no-no earlier. Having bought a scale a while ago my weight was so high it didn’t register… Until tonight. I got on and it worked!!! Will find out the truth tomorrow at weigh in…

fingers crossed!

Just got back from weigh in… I lost 6 pounds this week!

Yay me!

Hope everyone else is doing well :slight_smile:

Well done, Washte 6 pounds is fantastic!!
All your hard work paid off

LOL, Oooooh and I HATE people who post acronyms without a list. I meant to put it in there. I must plead posting too late.

Anyway it stands for Body for Life. I also do Leanness lifestyle and some of the other weight training programs.

I do admire the way WW has such a great support system, but prefer the weight training programs for their better nutritional and workout advice. Some WWr’s aren’t too crazy about the “lunatic fringe” of weight lifters, so I always ask before chipping in my 2 cents.

Everyone is welcomed in this thread! So welcome aboard!

Other than that - I ate a Dunkin’ Donut for breakfast! ACK! It tasted almost too sweet. I guess I’m not used to that much sugar anymore.

Well, I am somewhat relieved, I spent three days on the lash; eating, drinking and generally celebrating at the weekend. I even had one of those appropriately named Gluttony Magnum ice creams in the car on the way home.
Most disgusting, do not bother. (OK, so that’s a lie, but it’s for your own good!!!)
And according to the weigh in last night, I lost weight!!!

Half a pound off is infinitely preferable to two pounds on, which was how my poor old WW buddy and co-celebrant fared at last night’s class.

Hey all, new to the thread, sadly, not new to (dreaming of) weightloss.

We (SO and I) started WW at New Year’s, and were pretty dedicated 'til mid-March (my birthday) then, between parties, Easter and summer coming, we back slid big time.

He’s lost 22-25 lbs, and I’ve lost 12-15 lbs (you know you’ve backslid when you don’t even know how much you’ve lost!), but even in the month off we did a pretty good job of maintaining without counting points - it truly is a lifestyle change.

I haven’t reached my 10% yet, and we let our online membership lapse while he was unemployed, but we just started getting serious again, and we have a butt-load of weight to lose for our best friends’ wedding this fall (my bf is marrying his bf - it’s a small town thing!)

Anyway, I’m trying to get from 195 to 140ish. I love the activity points - I started doing Tae Kwon Do to help boost my metabolism, and 1.5 hours gives me an extra 16 points/day! Plus, I’m a yellow belt now, and feel a lot safer in the dark, alone.

Anyway, I think I’m doing okay, and hopefully will get back on the wagon this week.

I was down 1.5lbs at last night’s meeting for a total of 21.5lbs!!!

Woo hoo.

I’m still plugging away at it, but I find PMS and period-time really challenging.

I’m STARTING to walk with a new friend, so hopefully, that’ll help build up my bonus points and increase my weight loss!

We can all look better by summer!

The “staggering” of points that Anhita mentions is something those of us in BFL, Leanness Lifestyle, Body rX and just regular body builders (to name a few) do too. We call it “zig-zagging” calories.

What it does is allow you to reach your “calorie deficit” (the difference between your base metabolic rate [BMR]), and your intake less painfully. And without making your body “think” it’s famine time, thus preventing the “shutdown” that occurs when you dip down too far below your BMR.

In other words, if you hung at say 1200 calories a day and your BMR is 1800 (and keep in mind that BMR is what it takes just to keep breathing etc, it’s not taking into consideration your activity level), after awhile, your body is going to go “BeeeEEEP, BeeeeEEEEP, Red Alert, Starvation setting in, Shutdown all systems, start Operation Binge mode”!!!

But, with zig-zagging, at the week’s end, you’ve averaged out and created a higher calorie deficit for the week.

So, if you’re aiming for 1.5 pounds a week, and you want to boost it a bit, zig zag, and you can maybe eke out another 1/4 to 1/2 a pound.

It’s a pretty good deal, actually.

Hi, I work for Jenny Craig… what ever good that will do for my image?? Anyway, you’re right it’s all in your head. The method I use is DISTRACT!!!
The feelings come and go in 20 minute intervals. So find something you enjoy doing for that length of time.
Like: talking on phone
gardening
doing nails
walking
shower
bath
golf
whatever uses 2 hands
sex
cleaning… if you enjoy it
etc
You get the point! It helps me heaps!!!

superstar all are welcomed in this thread. I think your advice is very good actually. A few years ago I did Jenny and lost a lot of weight, like 55 pounds. Unfortunately for me, financially, I was unable to do Jenny this time around. I loved that program and was hesitant to try WW as I’d have to be making ALL my meal choices. I was not looking forward to trying WW in the beginning. Now, I’m LOVING the program. I love the fact that I CAN make smart choices. It just shows me that I have more self control than I gave myself credit for. Please, if you have any other useful tips that would help anyone trying to adjust their weight - chime in! :slight_smile:

Thanks Skittles, just remember everyone the greater your motivation the easier it is to say NO!! For example, would i rather eat that pizza, chocolate etc, or would i rather lose that kilo (or pound for the Americans) and get into that pair of jeans, outfit, and look good at that next function or stick it to that ex boyfriend or girlfriend!!! The stronger your goals the stronger your will power!!:slight_smile:
Also, and this is sooooo important, TAKE YOUR MEASUREMENTS!!!
Scales are decieving! Take them every week, but asses them every three or four weeks. Scales measure your fluid, whats in your bowels, the length of your hair, jewelery etc. Many of my clients lose measurements before weight! And who cares what the scales say, if you go down a size in clothes!!

Thanks for all the great info CanvasShoes about the zig-zagging.

You are right superstar. Scales can be very deceiving. Yes you may noot have lost weight, but lost inches instead.

Having been a power-lifter and heavily into weight lifting, my muscles are larger in comparison to someone else my size. So, losing bulk, for lack of better phrasing, is good for me. Muscle weighs more, so I will always have to keep that in mind. But, being able to drop a size after only losing 8-10 pounds is excellent in my book.

I now have more appreciation for people who have been doing WW and such for a while. With starting work recently, it is such a bugger to eat all my points as well as keep track of the few I eventually do get down me. I’ll be lucky to hold my weight this week. It has been way hectic.

There is now another motivator for me to walk more… I got a puppy the other night. So once she has her jabs and gets used to a harness I can take her out for walks :smiley:

Welcome all new peeps to the thread and well done to everyone this week. Keep it up!!

superstar has right on advice about the scale too. The scale lies. Too many of us women, from teenhood on, have been brainwashed that we “should” weigh a certain amount.

Many times, that attempt to meet some number on a scale, or a weight chart is what starts us down the long “yo-yo” dieting road in the first place.

Definitely try to drop your dependence upon the scale. Measuring and jeans size and just plain “how do you look” is SO much better a way to “measure” success.

Yesterday we went to the in-laws for Mothers Day and to celebrate my birthday. I ate to within 1/2 point of the top of my range, which I never, ever do. I’ll weigh myself when I go to the gym this morning and we’ll see if that cheesecake did any damage.

Well. I’m .75 lbs away from my 10%, cheesecake be damned.

GingerOfTheNorth that is GREAT news!

I got weighed in today, down another 0.8 pounds. Making it a total of 13.6. I’m happy with that even though I thought I would have done much better this week.

At least the number continues to go down!!!

Not looking forward to WI tomorrow… Auntie Flow is in town… Feeling like a blimp and want to tour Thorntons with my gob open.
