Weird Mac screensaver problem

I’ve been having a problem with my screensavers on my Mac (OSX 10.6 Jaguar) for a long time. It’s more of an annoyance, as it doesn’t seem to conflict with anything, but anyway…

Often when I’m working on my computer my screensaver will suddenly start up. I can have any screensaver chosen and still this will happen. I can make it disappear again by moving my mouse after it’s started, but I don’t know why it just suddenly starts up, because I have it configured to start only after my system is idle for 10 minutes (this works fine, BTW). This glitch happens several times a day.

I’ve run Norton on my system, and it reported no problems. And as i mentioned, it doesn’t seem to conflict with anything else; it’s just damn annoying.

doesn anyone know what could be causing this, and if I can fix it?

Well, Goddess, that’s amazing, since 10.3.x is the most current OS. Did you have to travel far into the future to get 10.6.x?
What machine do you have? If its a power book, or a G-5 iMac there are issues. The iMac has a serious hardware problem. I have one, and thank Og its under warranty, the repair was almost $900.00
I’ve only skimmed the Apple discussion thread about the power book problem.

Go to the discussions area under support at the apple.com. Find a discussion group about your machine, you’ll very likely find your problem already addressed.
I found I got better answers there than here.
I have learned as little as possible concerning the inner workings of my “toybox” (that’s what I named my hard drive) I live five minutes from an Apple Store, with its Genius Bar.
Good Luck.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t Mac just coming out with 10.4?

As to an answer, I’ve never heard of such a thing, but could it be that while you may be working at the computer, it is reading or something so you are not actually moving the mouse/keyboard or anything? I know that used to happen to me. Even if a movie is running, if you don’t move mouse/keyboard, the screensaver will still pop up after 10 minutes. At least on Windows it does, maybe OS X had fixed this, I doubt it though.

Just a clairifying question.

Do you have Hot Corners activated? If you do, dragging your mouse to the corner of your display would prompt the screen saver to start.

To check this, go into your System Preferences and select Desktop and Screen Saver. In the lower left hand corner under the Screen Saver tab is a button to set the Hot Corners.

You nailed it. I knew I had a Hot Corners option but never thought to check it (duh me). I have my dock set to pop up when I roll over the bottom of the screen; turns out I have a Hot Corner on the bottom right. Problem solved. Thanks!!!

BTW, my OP was supposed to say 10.3.6checks time…I think I ought to get to bed soon.
