Weird Pregnancy Dreams... do they mean anything?

I’m currently 27 weeks pregnant, and I had a very strange dream about my baby. In the dream, I lifted him out of my belly without any blood whatsoever. The wound in my stomach sealed itself up immediately. The baby was fully dressed, in those little denim overalls with the white pinstripes. Although I knew he was only 27 weeks, he seemed to be a full-term baby with no health problems. I said out loud in that rhetorical question sort of way the you talk to babies, “How did you get so big?” He sighed, “Oh, I don’t know.” I was also confused because he had brown skin, dark hair and dark brown eyes, yet he was undoubtedly the child of pale, white me and my paler, whiter husband. Then I put him down in a bassinet and he dissapeared, I searched frantically for him until I realized I was having a dream, and woke up. Do these dreams mean anything? Or are they just hormonal nuttiness?

These kinds of dreams are so common during pregnancy. I’m almost 10 weeks and the dreams haven’t started for me yet, but my husband has had a few and I had some when we were still trying to conceive. Some pregnant friends of mine have told me of terrible nightmares where their babies are born horribly deformed, come out and run away, all kinds of stuff. It’s just natural fears and anxiety as your due date gets closer.

I had weird dreams while I was pregnant, too. One time I dreamt that my husband and I were at the mall and after we’d been there for hours, I suddenly realized that we’d forgotten the baby in the trunk of our car. We went back to get him and couldn’t find him anywhere.

I agree with Winnie that it’s just your anxieties and fears about parenthood that cause these dreams. I think, also, that the all-consuming baby-focus that you have during pregnancy naturally causes your dreams to dwell on the same subject. I think it’s a good sign that you have some anxieties about your impending parenthood - it indicates that you’re worried about being a good parent.

I’m 8.5 months pregnant, and I have 3 kids. If crazy dreams meant anything, I would have given birth to puppies and 2 headed monsters.

As it happened, I just had normal kids.

Don’t let the dreams concern you.

Yes. These dreams mean your REM is working fine.

Don’t fret, and good luck!

While I was pregnant the only thing my dreams meant was that I was really really horny…

I didn’t have too many weird dreams about Caterpie though. Don’t worry… it’s normal stuff
