I keep getting redirected to ShopNav’s search page. According to several sites, this means I have spyware on my computer.
But I don’t have any of the keys under my registry which they tell me I should have, nor do I have any of the processes running which they tell me I should have.
Neverthless, the redirections are getting worse and worse. It’s started interfering with my ability to check my email–when I try to check my yahoo account, about one times in four when it tries to load a page I get redirected to search.shopnav.com!
Also, my available physical memory has been steadily shrinking over the last few weeks. I have a 256 MB card, but only 54 are available today!
Page file usage is listed at 217 MB. I don’t know if that means anything or not.
Please tell me of any recommendations you have. I wish I knew a way to import my list of running processes to my clipboard, but I don’t seem to be able to find a way to do that or I’d show them to you.
By the way, under the appropriate registry key directory I have only four keys listed, and all four I have checked and are legitimate.
Get yourself a free copy of AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, and clean all the spyware off your computer. Before scanning, don’t forget to have each program check for updates. You should scan with both programs, as they complement each other, and find things the other misses. Then use SpywareBlaster to block over 1200 different flavors of spyware.
Of course it’s spyware. Your computer wont randomly load shopnav.com instead of yahoo.com unless something is telling it to. spyware is designed to be undetectable and unremovable, so its not surprising that none of it is showing up when you search for it.
get spybot or adaware. they’re free and they actually work. they’re updated all the time, so you should run the update features on them before you use them.
As I mentioned in the OP, there are no suspicious keys listed under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. That’s what’s so weird about this situation.
I will get adaware and spybot and see what happens.
