I didn’t see another thread so I started this one. I thought it was a sweet, cute show that hopefully will last for the same number of episodes as Enlisted, which was cancelled after about 10 episodes. I don’t think it’s a blockbuster, Bruce was slightly annoying, and the brother was an annoying oaf.
On the other hand, it had Lena Olin, most of the men looked like models and the sauna scene was excellent.
Any comments from anyone else?
Bueller?
It’s already been renewed for a 2nd season in Sweden so even if NBC ditches it (& frankly I’m surprised they broadcast it at all) there’s always Hulu. It’s really unique and I enjoyed the pilot a lot. I did wonder about the logistics of Bruce just up & moving to Sweden and expecting to live there full time & find work. :dubious: How does that work if he & Emma aren’t married? I know it’s based on Greg Poehler’s real life, but I’m some stuff get’s glossed over in the process.
I came in halfway though it & was mildly amused. I did enjoy Andrea Martin’s Working the Engels afterwards.
I quite liked both parents, but was lukewarm about everyone else.
I think it’s implied that he has made enough money as a celebrity accountant that he does not have to work.
i enjoyed it. funny and you can learn swedish!
i give it 3 “borks”.
Just saw it off of DVR. I’m afraid I won’t bother with another episode. It was attractively shot and it had a certain charm, but I just found it forced and not very funny. Also, there just wasn’t much chemistry between the lead couple.
Love it. My peeps. My Dad (born in 1920) was of Swedish decent and was the most prideful person about anything Swedish. "Volvo? Greatest car in the world. Smorgasbord? Greatest food delivery system in the world. And when Ingemar Johansson won the heavy weight championship…Oh my!
So Welcome to Sweden is a treat. I’m trying to see what stereotypical characteristics… my people.… have.
Then I’m going to call the Swedo-American anti Defamation league and complain. Maybe we’ll protest. Maybe they’ll serve meatballs.
I’m guessing since we got back-to-back new episodes Working the Engles has been cancelled. Bruce’s father sure was obnoxious, though I thought there’d be more of a payoff re his mother and what she though were magic mushrooms.
I loved how awkward Emma was during her “negotiation negotiation”.
I think it’s interesting. In the last episode, Bruce learns there’s a difference between acting Swedish and acting depressed. There’s supposedly a higher rate of depression in the Nordic countries due to less sunlight.
It’s also a bit weird to see Amy Poehler’s face on a man’s body.
Season 2 has started on Netflix. It’s winter now and Bruce & Emma are getting married.
It’s also started on NBC; they broadcast the first two episodes of the second season on Sunday at 8pm.
I like Bruce’s mother. Is it just a Swedish thing, or does Viveka have a lot of baggage on marriage?
Well this was no surprise, but at least Poehler said we could watch the rest of the show on Hulu. Granted Hulu didn’t update with the latest 2 eps like they usually do on Mondays. :dubious:
Well Hulu posted the rest of the episodes this week (& I have to say their customer service department is surprisingly responsive).
I’m very satisfied with the last episode as a series finale. Although I would’ve liked to have seen…
…how Bruce & Emma handle parenthood.
