Welcome to the Canadoper Café, 2025!

Yes, it was a joke based on this.

I haven’t seen it. Is this in support of a competitor for the Liberal leadership, or is this a Pierre Poilievre attack in anticipation that Carney will win the leadership? Frankly I don’t know much about Carney beyond the fact that he has an impressive background in finance including the governorships of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England. I thought he was likable and articulate when I saw him in an interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.

“Carbon Tax Carney” (among other miscellaneous things)

I’m surprised they’re still going with the stupid nickname tactic. It gives off Trump energy, and anything Trump-associated is radioactive right now.

I had to wait literally minutes before I saw this ad again.

Oh shit, I was right about the “Just like Justin” bit?

Parody really is dead. I can’t imagine anything better to point out how fundamentally hollow the entire CPC platform is.

Google maps has changed the names of several ‘provincial’ parks to ‘state’ parks!

Now claiming, they’ve no idea how that could happen.

Ugh.

Joking? Google’s showing all of the parks in Ontario as Provincial Parks.

Hmmm… it’s calling all of the Provincial Parks in Quebec “National Parks,” though (I know, I know).

Anyone can put things on Google Maps. I’m pretty sure East Deez Nuts Blvd will still return results.

The “state parks” story was on tonight’s news. Google claims it has no idea how it happened, but apparently, it is working to fix things so that any such affected parks will be correctly put back to “provincial parks.”

The Conservatives are correct that Carney and Freeland provided ample economic advice to Trudeau. It is not clear whether he listened. But trying to link Libs to previous policy is not the same as having new ideas. PP is going to have to show he can do a better job handling Trump than his opposition. He has struggled to show this so far. His chances are still good.

That might be a bit strong. Multiple polls are showing a hypothetical matchup with Carney-led Liberals being almost even with the Tories:
Angus Reid - CPC 40%, Carney Libs 37%
Leger - CPC 40%, Carney Libs 39%
Pallas - CPC 38%, Carney Libs 39%

I’m not positive, but I suspect that at equal popular votes the Libs are well ahead in seats, since the CPC runs up huge margins in Alberta and Saskatchewan where the Liberal vote is more evenly distributed.

Obviously a lot can happen between now and the election, but it’s quite reasonable for the Conservatives to be running a bit scared of Carney given the currently available data.

So, I just heard a report on the radio that in the Ontario early voting, only 6% of eligible voters voted, as compared to about 10% last time. The last election was the lowest voter turnout in Ontario history, which was a big contributing factor in Ford getting such a huge majority in the legislature.

I’m starting to think it’s going to be even worse this time. What the hell has to happen to get people out to vote?!?

Perhaps it has to look like a close race? I had to Google the names of the non-Conservative candidates in my riding because there seemed to be little or no effort to let me know who they were. That doesn’t strike me as a very promising endorsement for their chances at unseating the incumbent.

I’m torn.

On the one hand, I’m a Canadian, dedicated to Canada. I’d really rather not give the US any business at this time.

On the other hand, I’ve got a pretty ladyfriend in the US, who is wondering when I am going to visit again.

Tough call.

You know, Canada can take this hit. Cross-border lovin’ is just good diplomacy and international relations, anyways.

Liberals Take Lead for First Time Since 2021 (Ipsos)

  38 Lib
  36 Tories
  12 NDP
  6 BQ
  4 Greens
  3 PP

Trump really did a number on the Tories. As asinine Ford is, he saw the turn immediately and draped himself in the flag as “Cap’ Canada, champion of the provinces.”

PP was blind and kept angerly preaching that the Liberals just haven’t appealed to Trump enough.

Well the traitors aren’t shy. And apparently Spot Ads, who own these bilboards, does not consider traitorous content against their ‘standards’. They claim to be ‘Proudly Canadian since 2015’ on their website.

The separist organization buying the billboard space is called America Fund. Unbelievable.

My business relies on long established contracts, we don’t use any advertising, so ots not like I was going to buy bilboard space and take it elsewhere. I can’t even send them an email. Their contact us page returns a 404. No idea if that is recent. I suspect their email and voice mail are full already. They have a screed about political ‘freedom’ and not taking a stand on divisive matters. Maybe thats typical of ad agencies? I don’t know, but I suspect they have their own sympathies.

Perhaps I am over reacting, but this really gets my steam up.

Trudeau finally saw the light and left in time for his party to have a fighting chance.

People might dislike Trudeau for several reasons. Not developing resources. Spending too much time and money on aboriginal issues. Naive foreign policy. Blaming Covid on him.

It is worth mentioning that while Musk and Zucky traded insults, pretended they would fight each other, and now call the Canadian leader woke… Trudeau actually launched his PM career by outboxing Brazeau - who has a second degree karate black belt and was a wrestler. No one thought Trudeau would win. He stayed on in the first round through shear spite and won the subsequent rounds through better endurance. Trudeau is easy to underestimate, and I think he will be back.

I don’t think Poilievre is down for the count either. But he needs to offer something more substantial than kvetching. And despite their flaws, Freeland is a Rhodes scholar who is tough as nails, and Carney does know something about economics.

Did he? I don’t think he ever said anything of the sort.

Rather, what he’s kept doing is just saying “Justin Trudeau sucks.” Which, as campaign strategies go, is pretty stupid when Justin Trudeau is, ya know, not running again. The “Just Like Justin” ads are flopping because Carney isn’t reminding anyone of Trudeau.

Poilevre USED to have some campaign ideas, but that was what, 18 months ago? 2 years? Remember when he was talking about using federal finance influence to force municipalities to get housing developments approved? That was an actual policy position. I haven’t heard them mention that in forever. Or anything else. Their entire platform is that Trudeau sucks and the carbon tax sucks.

You cannot win an election in Canada without an affirmative position.
