Just throwing a little welcome thread for a few new Dopers in particular and all the new Dopers in general. The folks I’d like to introduce personally are my beloved aunt jjrt and her beautiful daughter, my wonderful cousin, SugarBelle. They have come here at my reccomendation. I have told them that this, as we all know, is one of the most useful places on the net. We have a bunch of longstanding debates and this will be a great place to hash them out a little further. It will also help me keep in touch more with these great people. (I’m a terrible nephew when it comes to calling or writing).
In addition I’d like to say howdy to GoldenBoy, a person I have never met, but is from the same home town as I am and came here at the invitation of our well-respected Doper Polycarp, in what I found to be a very interesting and eventualy heartwarming exchange in this GD thread.
Those are the main reasons for this thread, but feel free to use it to introduce and welcome any Newbie you’d like. Newbies, please feel free to step up and introduce yourself or ask questions as well. I figure us veterans can explain some of the stuff about this board that we may have learned to make it easier for these people to get a feel for how everything works around here. I have been scolded a few times along the way, and maybe I can save you the same. The scorn of a Moderator is a fearsome sight to behold.
Also, considering that I now have family members on the board, people who I intend to debate, I understand the potential for blackmail. You see, these people have known me all of my life. Not only are they in full pocession of embarrasing information about my past, they have pictures. To protect myself from attack, and to head off any possible blackmail, I have started this Pit Thread.
So, fellow Dopers, if it suits you, come in and say hi, offer a bit of advice, key them in to the in-jokes, tell a funny story about what you’ve learned, or link to some of your favorite past threads. I’ll be posting a bunch of that myself, but as my first piece of advice I recommend keeping post lengths down below the size of a small novel.
Taking my own advice, we’ll just call that an OP*. . . .

*OP means “original post” or “original poster” depending on how you use it.
