Seriously. It’s not like those weird Asian boards that were lifting big swaths of the SDMB a few years back. Who the hell gets pissed off that information is being spread through the Internet?! Especially between Fark and the SDMB, two completely different places, both in address and in mindset.
It’s true that most of the time I try to be patronizingly polite when an idiot says something idiotic, but every once in a while I decide that’s not worth the effort. CandidGamera is not worth the effort.
I think that’s only fair. After all, I’m sure being patronizing all the time must get exhausting. Why shouldn’t you be entitled to a break now and then?

I know certain things are not allowed on this board; shouldn’t slander be one of them? If someone asserts something that’s damaging to another Doper’s reputation, that’s patently false, there are absolutely no consequences. I have never “abused” anyone simply for disagreeing with me. I have disagreed with people, and I have gotten defensive–overly so–when someone goes personal in disagreeing with me–but I have never initiated a turn to ad hominem on these boards. Never.

I have never, ever gone ad hominem on anyone on these boards for taking a different position form me on the subject–any subject–under discussion. The only time I have ever lashed out at someone is if *they *have strayed from the subject in order to make a personal attack on me. But somehow, due to the repetition of a couple of slanderous memes, I’m the only Doper who’s not allowed to defend myself against personal attack. Anyone here is free to jump on me, in any thread, no matter how dishonestly, and the instant I defend myself the original attack is lost in the mist of bullshit.
Please prove otherwise.

Returning to the OP somewhat, at least, I actually lost interest in Fark once I was introduced to this board. And I’d been enjoying a TotalFark subscription for a while.
From my point of view, the links were interesting, but as has been pointed out, the discussions were almost completely without value. I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing a few more interesting Fark links make their way here so that the contents could be discussed intelligently. But in lieu of that, I’d rather spend my time here than there.

I’m a member of both TF and SD. If there’s an overlap in topic, there’s a chasm in replies. One may get snark here and proper info there from time to time, but the flavors are definitely different. If I saw a great topic over there, I wouldn’t see why the dopers wouldn’t like it and don’t see a problem with duplication. Frankly, I see more overlapping with TWOP than TF in CS.
Count me in with the people who don’t care about the cross links. I like to read Fark, but would not post over there. So it’s good to read the Dope perspective sometimes.

A mind retort is what happens when one thinks something really nasty and bitter, and decides one is better off not saying it outloud (or typing it where others can see it.)
I don’t see the problem here – and not just because I’ve cross-posted Fark articles. I post 'em here because I like and respect the members here more than I do on Fark, and because the discussion here (even if humourous in nature) is of a higher calibre than the lame and cliquish “+1” and “/slashies” and other cliché posts on Fark. I have a (non-TF) membership on Fark but I don’t post there because it’s pretty much hopeless getting any useful measure of good conversation going. I’d rather post a link here and discuss it with folks who don’t even know what the hell slashies are. (I still don’t)
