Hey there everyone. I’ve been lurking here for three or four years now, I’m not sure exactly. Reading the 'Dope has been one of the myriad ways I’ve avoided working on things I ought to. I figured it’s only fair I poke my head out and see who tries to chop it off.
A little introduction might be in order, I suppose. I’m an early-thirties software engineer in the middle of nowhere PA. I’ve got a BS in Physics, and a MS in Computer Science, and I work for a small company that does contract programming work for the NRC. I’ve never been married, and I’m not currently seeing anyone seriously.
Well, I figure that’s a start. Nice to finally put my voice out there.
I’m not sure myself really. I’ve always felt vaguely guilty for reading but not actively participating. I was just reading a post and felt the need to respond. Not entirely sure why, but there ya go.
Actually, somewhat close to a decade ago I picked Drom as the name of my immortal on a MUD that died on the vine. I’ve used it as an e-mail account and nom-de-keyboard for years now. It’s the old-english spelling of the word Dream. Unfortunately it’s also rather common for some reason, so Dromish (a little bit like Drom) is my consolation name.
Don’t ask me. I moved here from Mississippi almost 7 years ago and was pleasantly surprised to be able to buy alcohol in a restaurant on Sunday. Only being able to buy beer from distributors in cases really cut into my micro-brew sampling. I typically buy multi-packs for just that reason.
My personal geekyness goes leaps and bounds beyond simple software.
It’s to help out the more henpecked married guys: “Well, no, honey, of course I don’t need this much beer, but they only sell them in cases. I’ll put them in the garage fridge so they’re out of the way.”
