Well, it's Summer.

Man, I hate living in Arizona.

Those temperatures…they’re just, ridiculous.

That is some serious heat! I’m in PA where it has been hot and humid, ugh. It finally rained today, a nice thunderstorm actually, but it’s still not very comfortable. I feel like once the a/c goes on, it never goes off. I’d love to open the windows, that’s not going to happen though. Even the dog walks out the door, sits down and looks at me like, are you kidding me? I’m not going for a walk in this weather.

June 21 is the first official day of summer, but yes it’s freaking hot.

Yeah, it’s already in the 90s every afternoon in South Texas, heat index over 100. But hey, it will only be this hot through, say, October…

It was only 105 at my place in San Jose yesterday. And the damn apartment pool was almost 90–refreshing for about 45 seconds, tops.

Oddly, I am somewhat annoyed by all the light. Ten thirty in the evening (DST, unlike most of AZ) and there is still light in the sky. I used to appreciate it more, but there is a certain comfort in the closeness of night. This world can look a whole lot better when you cannot see most of it. Perhaps it is because I was born in the shadow of Yule, and when I am to die, it must be in the winter, so that I shall not lose an hour of my life.

109 here in the Central Valley, Ca 108-110 for the next several days.

I hate the semitropical humidity of Taiwanese summers.

Good thing global warming is just a myth, right? Oops, sorry. That’s right. It’s a Chinese propaganda plot.

Whatever.

I always heard it called Midsummer (it’s the solstice). Except in Australia where it’s the winter solstice. Roughly coincident with St John’s Day.

I mean, it is not the first day. Also, be glad you are not in Dubai

My dog is fucking crazy. I put her outside this morning when the temperature was “only” 98°. I noticed her rolling around on her back out in the direct sunlight. (There wasn’t anything wrong with her. She was rolling around in that way dogs have when they’re in ecstasy.) I immediately let her back inside of course, where it’s air-conditioned. But she’s dumb. She has a patio with a roof to lay under that’s always in the shade, but she’ll lay outside right under the sky fire.

It reached about 113° today, by the way.

Expecting a high of 78 today.

But let’s compare weather situations again come January.
mmm

Is that “summer starts on June 21st” an US thing or is it in wider use? It’s certainly not true here in Finland - summer officially starts when the local temperature average goes over 10 C. I understand that sort of definition wouldn’t really work in a big country like USA where you have all sorts of climates.

Also took a look at the OP’s weather forecast - 86 F at night! That really drives it home for me, I’ve never experienced that sort of night temperatures. About 55 F and raining here right now.

It’s 88° here in Tucson, AZ, at 5:00 a.m. It’s forecast to reach 114° today, a new record for this date.

I sympathise (I’ve been to Vegas, so have experienced that heat.)

Here in the UK, my Midlands town is experiencing temperatures of 73 F.
I may run out of ice lollies.

My Accuweather forecast is:

Tuesday 112/90 “Hot and Breezy” (7% humidity)
Wednesday 111/88 “Sunny, breezy and hot.”
Thursay 111/88 “Sunny, breezy and very hot.”
Friday 108/84 “Sunny, breezy and very warm.”
Saturday 111/84 “Sunny breezy and remaining warm.”

Sounds nice and cool.

I have no idea why the summer and winter solstice have become “the first day” of their respective seasons, at least around here. If anything, I would think that those points should be the exact middle of their respective seasons, but that, meteorologically, does not seem to bear out, either, at least not in my climate.

I think most Americans think of summer as the season between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend (Memorial Day: last Monday in May and the two days before it; Labor Day: first Monday in September). But, yes, it may vary depending on where in the states you live, but it’s always been my cultural experience that Memorial Day weekend is treated as the first weekend of summer, and Labor Day weekend closes it out. That said, you can’t help but constantly hear that June 21st is the first “official” day of summer. Heard it on the radio this morning, in fact.

I like how a high of 111 is described variably as “hot,” “very hot,” and then, eventually just “remaining warm.”

I HATE hot weather. It’s going to be around 100 degrees here in San Jose all week, and a few degrees hotter where I live south of San Jose. We may experience power outages here today. I’ve drawn all the blinds in my office and will turn out all unneeded lights, but you never know.

And sleeping will be a misery, even with A/C and a ceiling fan. Our upstairs bedroom is always too hot.

This evening will be “Stonehenge” night at our house. When we open our upstairs blinds during sunset on summer solstice day, the light streaming through will strike a bathroom mirror way on the other side of the house, only on this evening of the year.
