Yeah, that was me too. It was really ugly how many of my friends (and I have about 3700 of them on there) had status’ that were racial. I actually saw people who were friends with one another yelling and calling each other names on the status update reply thingie. Lots of people defriending each other and saying a lot of racist stuff.
One friend of mine put her status as “I voted Obama” and out of nowhere another of her friends was like “I hope you rot in hell you leftist bitch”. This was just one case out of about 20 I saw. It’s pretty bad.
I don’t really expect Obama will survive his terms. The hate level is just wayyyyy too high…and for every person you do hear about or see, there’s about ten that you don’t.
Sigh. It’s reprehensible but not unexpected, sadly. Whenever change happens there’s some amount of backlash. Racists just lost big time, of course they’re going to be frothing at the mouth. And a lot of that kind of hatred is based deep down on fear, so you can even feel a bit sorry for them for that, if you can bring yourself to.
Supposedly, the messageboard for the neo-Nazi group that invaded the Dope a few years back, has been hammered hard in the past few days. They’re all supremely terrified that Obama will run this country into the ground.

I’ve had a lot of emails from him in the past so I already knew he hated punctuation and the English language, but we’d never discussed politics before, and now I hope we never do again.
Oh, yeah, I already know that (Lord knows I’ve heard white folks complain about it long enough). But thanks, anyway. And that “free sandwich” thing cracked me up.
What I was really trying to say is that, since I don’t know of any government program that exists for the benefit of only blacks, I’d be asking the folks that ****DiosaBellissima ****referenced exactly which programs they were talking about. IOW, programs like, say, Section 8, were established to assist not black people, per se, but *low income *people (all of whom, intelligent people know, are not black).
Even then, though, I figured that hey, I don’t know everything, and maybe there *is *(though unlikely) some government “hand out” program from which only blacks are allowed to benefit, and perhaps there are some Dopers out there who can set me straight…er, right…er, can properly inform me.
Give me a fucking break. There’s “doesn’t share all my views”, and then there’s “racist”. I don’t want friends who share *all *my views, I might as well talk to myself. But I sure as fuck don’t need any racist friends.

What you say, sir, is very true. The thing is, though, as far as I know, none of my friends expresses or (AFAICT) harbors bigoted views that would, if I remember **devilsknew’s **words correctly, make me die inside a little.

Oh definitely. You know, maybe I’ve lived here too long…the reason I didn’t provide the punch line for that “joke” is because I figured everyone knew what direction that was going.
Just in my limited experiences down in the Wayne State area of Detroit, there has been a lot of racial goodwill on both sides around here. It’s a honeymoon period, sure, but I’m enjoying it while its lasting.
