Well that didn't take long (Political fundraising for 2028 has commenced)

I just got my first solicitation asking me to donate money for the 2028 election.

Oh God I was hoping it would be over. At least for a little while. But I suspect this has only encouraged them.

Well, you’ve got to help them make their reporting deadline of the end of the month. You aren’t helping them. Why aren’t you helping?

I got a text an hour ago asking for money for Scott Colom in Mississippi, where the race is too close to call yet. I live in Ohio.

I got one a few minutes ago from Scott Colom (D running for Senator from Mississippi) saying he needed money to ensure all the votes are counted with no R shenanigans.

Ha! We’re on the same suckers list!

I’m tempted to respond: “I’ll donate the maximum allowed by law next year if you refrain from any requests for the next 12 months.”

Scoot over.

As of 4:14 eastern time, Mary Peltola is now broke, broke she says, and won’t be able to continue the fight to count the Alaska senate race ballots accurately without an infusion of my cash.

I wonder how long it’ll be before @ZipperJJ gets the same request. We seem to be twin donors suckers. Or at least marks.

The iron is real hot right now. I’d hit that.

I got two from Scott Colom. One an hour ago, and another one 20 minutes ago. Two different phone numbers, but the same message. And I’m in Kansas. Sheesh.

I’m in FL. That’s some distance from both MS & AK.

Modern fundraising and dark money doesn’t care at all about state boundaries. In the last 6 months I’ve heard pleas from reps & senators and even governor candidates from nearly every state.

The states they should be hitting up now are the ones where the races are not close.

My son got that one, too. His response (to friends):
“Staaaaaahp!”

All this winning is causing a liquidity crunch for Soros. We need to pay our brave transgender antifa supersoldiers.

Well as of 11:38 PM Eastern, I haven’t been asked for money for Mary. I guess I’m not a Big Fish like you! Soros has a heart.

Ummm… technically, Mississippi is only about 60 miles from the Florida panhandle. But it’s fair that Miami is a pretty good distance away, both as the crow flies and culturally.

(And some will say, with some justification, that the Florida panhandle isn’t really Florida, just East Alabama.)

Alaska is definitely as far away from where you are as you can get.

I believe the saying in Florida is the further north you go, the further south you get.

Are they allowed to spend the money they raise on whatever?

In the nonprofit world pretty much every dollar from a donor goes toward general operations, even if that wasn’t the pitch - unless the donor explicitly indicated otherwise.

So even if the nonprofit says something like, “A $10 donation will buy two pairs of socks for sick children” and you give them $10, it may not be spent on socks. It just goes into a big pile of money used for program expenses, which includes, but is not limited to, socks.

I wonder if political campaigns work the same way. Can donated money be spent on any Democratic candidate?

Wouldn’t it be nice if trillionaire Elon Musk would buy a hospital for the State rather wasting 100’s of millions funding really awful GOP candidates.

Yeah. I guess that’s not gonna happen but I can dream.
