Sometime either yesterday or today I made my 25,000th post on this Board. I had planned on marking the occasion with a little celebration or some other event.
Now I guess I’ll have to focus on my 20th anniversary here, which won’t be for another (checking my user CP. . .)
Tomorrow an 18-wheeler will pull up to your house and the trailer will open to reveal a panoply-- a veritable cornucopia of prizes and tokens of appreciation from the SDMB.
I hope you have room for a hot tub! And you’d better lay in a supply of extra-large dog beds. (They have good ones at Tuesday Morning.) Do you have enough freezer space to accommodate a whole side of beef? No? Well, don’t worry, the freezer is included, too! Is there room for a 9-foot Steinway grand piano in your living room? There had better be by tomorrow! Hope you like peanut butter (and there are no peanut allergies in your family), because you will soon have a year’s supply! Plus, all the shelf-stable Velveeta cheese you will ever need for the rest of your life! And that’s not all… better take the day off from work and invite the neighbors… it will be quite a show.
Don’t say the Dope never appreciated you.
**Disclaimer for the literal-minded Dopers among us: this is a joke. **
But you know what? I’ve never received a Warning here. Heck, I can’t even remember getting a Mod Note. If I’ve ever been pitted, it fell off the page so fast I never saw it. Maybe after all these years this is my subconscious attempt to be a bad boy. Maybe deep in my heart I’m trying to go right up to the edge, to see how far I can push The Man before The Man pushes back. Maybe I’m trying to commit - well, I don’t want to commit suicide by Mod, but maybe I’m trying to commit stubbing my toe by Mod.
I NEED TO BE STOPPED. SOMEONE REPORT ME BEFORE I GO TOO FAR. PLEASE!!!
I think that the old ban on post count parties and such can definitely be relaxed. And for sort of sad reasons: Just a lot fewer people in general and a lot less newbies in particular.
We’re not going to see this forum clogged up with a bunch of “Woot! This is my 100th post!” threads.
If TPTB think having the smaller number of people should be encouraged to make more threads to make the board seem more active, then relaxing some previous standards might be in play.
If I recall correctly, that rule went into effect after several people started threads just to boost their post counts. They were useless threads that contained nothing but periods, numbers, or gibberish.
