Yep. And that’s why that strategy is being used by these Nazis. They can’t convince anyone on the merits, so they use “ironic” jokes to say it, and then, by human nature, what you say over and over starts to be what you actually believe.
In fact, I think that’s a huge part of how they even continue to exist. If you convince yourself that it’s just a joke, even when you’re actively hurting others, then you don’t have to deal with how hateful or horrible you are being.
That’s why dismissing this stuff as mere humor is dumb. We saw that with Trump. How many Trump supporters supported him because they wanted to piss off (aka troll) others? And, when it happened, did they freak out? No. It’s all just a big joke. Nothing matters.

This is accurate. I’m on several places and know people on FB who make racist or slanderous jokes, make wild-assed leaps of logic and routinely post alt-right bullshit. When I say something about it, they say it is just a joke, or they backpedal and deny meaning anything to the point where you’d have to believe their original post was some kind of complete non-sequitur.
