Well, the America is Christian" bigots were out in force Saturday

Obviously.

Where did THIS fucking moron come from?

Wherever it was, he’s gone back to it.

Bokonon exorcisms work!

So, we were discussing the anti-Sharia protests, weren’t we? The “Houston” event took place at the San Jacinto Battleground, where Sam Houston defeated Santa Anna. That’s pretty far out of town–in beautiful LaPorte, hard by the scenic Ship Channel. Attendance was not impressive. Counter protesters showed up but nothing dramatic went down.

OK, now* I’m *going off the subject. There was competition to the protest against a bogus threat–*another *protest against a bogus threat.

From Texas Monthly:

Yes, Sam did own slaves. But he was a strong Unionist throughout his life & ended up getting kicked out of the Governors mansion for refusing to swear allegiance to the CSA. The article details how far Sam was from being a Confederate Hero.

No, it makes perfect sense. If the two girls hadn’t been Mooslim* then Christian** wouldn’t have felt compelled to start yelling, there would have been no intervention, and nobody would have gotten slashed. QED.

*Actually, only one was (outwardly) Muslim. But her companion was guilty by association, at least.
**One of the most striking disconnects between name and behavior I’ve come across in many moons.

Antifa would never dare stick their noses outside the Austin city limits.

Them toppling a statue of Sam Houston is about as likely to happen as them marching through the south side of Chicago yelling ‘black lives matter’ and Trying to stop traffic with their bodies.

Clearly, these are not sensible and reasoning people like, say, the Bundy Bunch.

Besides, how do we even know that the whole thing wasn’t a hoax? Was it authenticated by the Antifas Central Committee? Maybe just somebody on the internet jerking some chain? Dale, you seem to know more about these people than I do, who is their official spokesperson? If you thought something was a bogus Antifas announcement, how would you check? Or would you bother?

It had to be a hoax. And as above ground as i am, if I heard something about an announcement I’d immediately be suspicious.

I haven’t looked any deeper than what I see on Youtube clips. I just can’t trust the veracity of any kind of online journalism outside of The Intercept (and if I’m wrong about them well shit). And Antifa are so fringe…as people have said, most don’t even know who they are. I don’t think they’re dangerous particularly, just stupid.

Your question about a spokesman made me interested and https://heatst.com/politics/portland-rose-parade-canceled-after-antifa-anarchists-threaten-violence/ that was the first hit I got.

I doubt they have an official spokesman. But I found the article interesting. A letter from Antifa got Portlands Rose Parade shut down about 6 weeks ago. If you read the letter…it is LITERALLY terrorism. Now that word (like nazi) has been so watered down that a letter from some idiots can’t possibly be terrorism.

But it is. They threaten ominous consequences, if the parade does not exclude a Republican groups attendance. They make demands. They issue threats. They threaten to assault those who do not fit their political ideology.

Now was THAT a hoax? Coulda been. Could have been a 12 year old troll I guess, since it looks like no one made the lightest investigation as far as I could tell.
I’ve ranted enough about these guys.

Agreed.

No. The antifa threat caused the 82[sup]nd[/sup] Avenue of Roses Parade to be canceled. That was a preliminary event, much smaller than the Grand Floral Parade through the heart of downtown, which did happen. Please try not to overstate things.

I didn’t overstate anything. I provided the correct name and a link confirming as much.

I never said the GFP didn’t happen.

You said “Portlands Rose Parade”. That literally means the GFP. The parade that was shut down could not reasonably be called “Portlands Rose Parade” unless you add enough qualification to make it clear that the parade that was shut down was not the main event. That was overstatement.

The Southern Baptist Convention split off before the Civil War over slavery and was white dominated, and, for a lot of its history was pro-segregation and didn’t have a lot of black members. Most black Baptists in the south are members of the National Baptist Convention, which was set up by black Baptists who weren’t welcome in the Southern Baptists.

MLK was affiliated with the National Baptist Convention, originally. After he was kicked out in 1961, his congregation was one of the founders of the Progressive National Baptists.

Are you sure it wasn’t the Convention of National Baptists?

You really want to go there?

People’s Front for the Nationalization of Baptists?

Splitter!
