Bridesmaid for three sisters, and a mother-of-the-bride. My family doesn’t go in for Dream Barbie weddings; they were moderate affairs, the first three in my parents’ (very nice) back yard.
Also sang some church wedding gigs, when I was a cantor at my church. Essentially I was part of the hired service, since, like most, the weddings were not of parishioners, but of nominal Catholics who liked the building.
Groom: Once (going strong)
Best Man: Twice (one divorce, one going strong)
Groomsman: Once (going strong)
Walked someone down the aisle: Twice (both going strong)
Between 3 brothers, a few cousins, & multiple friends I believe I’ve been in a dozen or more. Never a best man though. I don’t know the statistics on survival rate.
At my age I assume I’m done, unless/until I’m walking daughters down the aisle.
Although I was an oldest daughter of three, my father walked my older cousin down the aisle before we were old enough. He father died when she was a little girl, and Dad was her closest uncle. When she married again her two sons walked her down, and though she is not short they towered over her, as both their maternal grandfather, and their bio dad, were very tall men. That marriage has been going for 32 years now.
I was a bridesmaid in two weddings and the MOH for one of my sisters (and she was MOH for me). I think my main duty as MOH was to hold up my sister’s gown when she had to pee. I was also a witness at a courthouse wedding. The bride was 19 and got the giggles during the ceremony.
My sister was in her 30s and got the giggles at her wedding. I just saw her from behind and thought she was crying (she tends to get emotional) but nope, something just tickled her as she stood at the altar.
Maid of honour for my sister, bridesmaid for a brother. But when I was at uni…
I lived with a bunch of foreign students. A Trinidadian girl went home for break and returned big in love with a new boy. He turned up to visit a month later. We came home from classes and found them waiting. They wanted us to off with them to the Justice of the peace’s house so they could wed! (No one’s family knew.)
So we did. Just me and the Chinese girl as witnesses.
