I agree that we should lynch the testee, tho’ if they match november exactly I’m not sure that would be a wise use of the lynch. I’m not sure what the point of ‘asking’ someone to claim or not is; if someone thinks they can help the town by claiming, then they should.
Folks, we can’t let the Testerizer run the game. As we’re very unlikely to get meaningful results out of the thing for several days at least, we shouldn’t just toss someone in there willy-nilly, especially with the general consensus of lynching the testee. Lynching the testee is a good idea, but, because of this we need to treat a test vote like a lynch vote; that doesn’t seem to be happening. In other words, we need to find a good lynch candidate by, what, Wednesday? That means we need to get cracking right now, and starting to put in our votes so they can be discussed and debated.
We haven’t got a ton of information to go on due to the november vote, so I’ve been re-reading the thread and of course there aren’t any smoking guns. However, Freudian Slit, I don’t really care for your ‘me too’ post immediately above – echoing others’ opinions, particularly in matters unlikely to attract criticism, seems a good enough scum tell to me as any we’ve had so far. I went back and read through the thread paying particular attention to you. You’ve played before, IIRC, and you’re playing your hand very close to the vest.
The only remotely divisive thing you’ve said was defending Daphne, which while I don’t take issue with per se, was not really breaking new ground (after all, of course, we don’t have a lot of evidence on Day 1, so arguing on anyone’s behalf can seem to others like giving good advice and therefore boost their confidence in you). Other than that, you’ve posted a middle-range number of posts with little new content and even less to attract attention. That seems to me to be, in every substantial sense, lurking; you’re playing awfully conservatively for a townie, and adding few of your own thoughts. In a game without significant power roles, you’re not a Doctor trying to avoid attention, so I think this is the best vote I can make right now.
vote Freudian Slit

I can’t help but wonder if this post got Scuba_Ben killed. It does seem a bit too obvious, killing someone who called you out. But odds are at least one of the players listed there is a wolf. Maybe the scum decided that it would be safe and that we would go after the wrong one on the list.
I’d like to see one of those four tested this round.
Fluid, you’ve hit on something which had been bugging me about Freudian’s play yesterday. She seemed pretty keen to defend me, almost like she was trying to butter me up (esp. since at that time I was being attacked pretty hard). But on the other hand she seemed really tentative; she also made a comment (I can’t find it now) about my experience level that pinged me somewhat, that sounded very wishy-washy (so that if I became a target later she could point back to it as a more long-standing suspicion?).

I basically agree with lynching whomever we test, though I think Daphne is correct that we should absolutely not do this* if *they come up Green Red like november.
We really have time pressure this time for the testerizer, so we really need to have our testerizer vote more ore less finalied by tomorrow night.
I think that post was just a list of people who’d gotten votes. Though I’d be surprised if one of the other three wasn’t a wolf (the odds are mildly in favor of any group of three active players containing a wolf), I don’t take that too seriously on face.
Speaking of being concerned about “me too” behavior, I’m a little worried about Daphe’s quick join to fluiddruid’s post. Yes Freudian Slit is potentially worrisome, but I was more tickled by Daphne.
test Dapheblack

Daphne Black (1): Telcontar

Aw nuts. Avenge me, Town! cuts hand across throat, sticks finger in fist, sinks to the depths
I won’t be updating the Google Doc, but I will keep granting access as people request it.
And I, in turn, am a little concerned about the fact that you’re still hammering on DaphneBlack even though from my perspective there’s no way she’s had anything like the most anti-town approach thus far. She’s posting substantively and hasn’t really, to my mind, made any “huh?” leaps in logic the way several posters have.
I’m afraid that at this point, my vote is
Test Telcontar
Vote Telcontar
keeping in mind that it’s early yet, and I’d definitely like to hear more about this “tickling” sensation.
Shit. I was supposed to bold, right?

Hmmm. Well, I’m not a werewolf. This is the way I usually play, even though I am but a boring Townie.
I’m not sure who we should vote for at this point, to test or to lynch. However, if I do get tested, I’ll say this, that I am a rancher, so at least one of my colors should match november’s.
Having re-read the thread, nothing substantive jumps out to me. However, a few “interesting” things that piqued my interest
-
Telcontar - despite his repeated demonstrations of the “math”, I think the desire to delay the first vote was terribly misguided at best, and wolf-friendly at worst.
-
Elendil’s Heir - announcing so early what her (?) role is. I can’t see the benefit of that, unless she was subtly trying to deflect attention. Else it was just a newbie move.
-
DaphneBlack / Freudian Slit: In at least two instances, FS came to an immediate defense of DB when she was drawing attention. Now I posted way back when that I got a sense of “gamesmanship” from DB, but over time that was allayed. But FS’s posts made me wonder if they were working in tandem. Now DB has voted FS for testing, but I can’t shake the feeling that this is strategy - DB throws out a testerizer vote to throw suspicion at FS, then FS responding (again, very promptly) with a “I’m a townie, seriously” post. Grand game being that the testerizer vote doesn’t end up being FS, but DB and FS are now in the clear. Or maybe I’m overthinking it
So my vote could go any way, but no one has convinced me we shouldn’t do what I wrote a bit earlier, and vote experienced this round for the testerizer.
So right now, I’m voting
test Freudian Slit
But what am I supposed to do, other than say that I’m town? Tell everyone (which I’m not) that I’m a werewolf?
He, I think. What’s the scum motivation there? I agree that it’s not helpful to town, but I don’t see the point as scum. It would obviously be noticed and questioned. I would like Elendil to explain why he felt he could trust anyone on Day One, though.
You have no reason to believe me, I suppose, but you’re overthinking this. How does putting a second vote on someone help a ‘grand game’ of Freudian not being the testee? And by what measure would not being tested leave either of us ‘in the clear’?
And while I am still suspicious of her, claim of rancher-ness or no, I also don’t understand why you’re surprised that her response to suspicion is to deny that she’s scum?
Yes, “he.” Otherwise (as I’ve pointed out before on the SDMB) I’d be Elendil’s Heiress. I can’t say I had a particularly good reason to reveal what may or may not have been deceptive. I play my hunches and sometimes engage in strategery that’s too deep even for me. And yes, I’m a newbie. :: shrug ::
Freudian Slit kept a low profile during Day 1, IMO, but then so did fluid. On the other end of the spectrum, Telcontar has sunk his teeth into Daphne and wont let go - despite this, he only ever voted to test her, never to lynch. Add to this the bad maths in the no lynch on Day 1 idea, and we have some pretty suspicious behaviour.
But here’s the question, what is more suspicious?
- A person who accuses a lot of different people
- A person who accuses one or two people, over and over
- A person who hardly accuses at all
People like 1 include Daphne and Seeker
People like 2 include Telcontar
People like 3 include FS, Jimmy Chitwood and [Undecided] Adrian
For completeness, I would class myself as Type 3 (although maybe this post shifts that to Type 1)
AllWalker, how are you defining ‘accuses’? Because to me, your post above does not really contain any ‘accusations’, just observations. Maybe it’s accusing Telcontar, but I don’t see how that ‘moves’ you into category 1 in your own categories.
If we start treating all observations as ‘accusations’, I think that would be a misrepresentation. To me, your categories more reflect the amount people are ‘engaging’ with others. Some people stick to ‘engaging’ with one or two individuals, some engage with anyone who says something they find interesting or odd, some stay out of the fray.
How would you, for example, categorise rexnervous, fluiddruid, or Justin?
I think it’s human psychology (in which I am not an expert, nay, not even a layman) that were the conversation over the next two days shift the vote to someone else, there would be a sense of “well, the town has collectively cleared FS” as the vote went to that someone else. A collective approval that might last for another couple of Days.
Admittedly, this is far-fetched and risky, and I could merely be latching on to a bad idea and seeing everything through that warped lens.
I will be the first to admit that this is pure “gut feel”; hell, I did the same exact thing (well, with less specificity) on Day 1 when Oredigger77 voted me. I guess I would’ve expected a little more defense, and I also just don’t see her actually contributing much to the discussion outside of the theoretical.
I am by no means fixed in my vote - but it’s down on paper at least.
I don’t really see what else there is to defend. Either you believe me, or you don’t. If you want to testerize me, I don’t think it would do much good to lynch me since we’ve already lynched a rancher, so you’d be getting no new info.
Though I am usually the first to take one for the team, this just seems useless.
