Yes, Utah does do the same thing. “Regular” grade is 85 octane, compared with 87 in the rest of the country. I think it has something to do with the altitude, in that 85 at high altitude perfoms as well as 87 at sea level (or so they try to tell me.)
Miss Gretchen, plan on $2.10 to $2.30 per gallon when you reach Southern California.
1- I highly recommend you get the car tuned up before you go. I just had my spark plugs replaced in my Camry, and the gas milleage improved dramatically.
2- Here is Sacramento, the cheap gas (Arco AM/PM) is going for about $1.99 for the low end, and the expensive stuff like Chevron or 76 is going for as much as $2.15.
Enjoy your trip. You should try to meet some dopers on the way down, the odds are good that you’ll be passing through the territory of some.
Fairfield, MT is a speed trap. The whole town. Obey posted speed limits religiously, unless you’re going through after 3am, in which case the local cop is probably not on duty.
Here in Sonoma County… well, I’m trying not to think about it, but I think the cheap stuff is around $2.06 a gallon.
There is a station in LA (can’t tremember where, heard it on the radio) that is charging $4.25 for super.
I can’t imagine there’s much of a line to get it…
Like EJ, I read this morning that there is a station in El Cajon charging 4.29 per gallon. I guess they were running low on their supply. Yeah, whatever.
BTW, that is certainly not typical. Yet.
I paid $2.11 this morning just north of LA. Thank God I sold my Chevy Blazer last year.
I see your smiley face, but I’m not smilin’. We are not gonna benefit that way. In fact, you’ll be paying your $3 per gallon directly to Dick Cheney and all the other insiders who have oil holdings and are pushing for this war.
Palm Springs, CA - $2.09 for regular
BTW, I just came back from Kauai, and the gas there was priced around $2.07. Anyone who travels to Hawaii knows that they usually gouge the tourists by pricing their gas 30-40 cents more per gallon than California price. So WTF is the meaning of this?
I’d drive to Hawaii, if I were you.
Here is West Hollywood it’s anywhere from $2.17 to $2.29 for the cheap gas. whimpers Down in SD it’s about $2.10
Here in Topeka it’s anywhere from 1.599 per gallon to 1.699. To convert for the more sensible folks of the world who use metric, that between 42 and 45 cents(American) per liter.
Just filled up in Hollywood for $2.06 a gallon, with the cheap stuff. Most places were between $2.09 and $2.16 that I noticed on the drive home in the San Fernando Valley.
