Westworld - premieres Sunday (show spoilers as airs)

The U.S. Cavalry, with rhetoric implying it’s still during the Civil War.

Matthew McConaughey…

Maybe I’m excessively jaded but shooting a robot shaped like a child doesn’t really strike me as all that shocking. The fact that such a robot was included in the park means it must have occurred to the designers that a guest would or might shoot it (and/or rape it?) at some point.

Well that is one of the broader issues that the show seems to be wanting to raise.

Would raping a child shaped and sized robot seem across the line to you?

If you know that the robots have awareness does causing them suffering bother you? Does the fact that they were created in order for you to be able to make them suffer change that? Is creating robots with awareness for you to be able to cause suffering in different than breeding humans for slaves who you are free to cause suffering in if that’s your pleasure? How much different from you justifies that?

And pulling the AI’s awareness out of consideration, does what we choose to do as fun in a non-real faux environment, tell something about who we really are?

Okay the subjects have been beaten to death as fodder for Black Mirror eps … a bit more concisely.

Doesn’t look like anything to me.

They need to have a scene set in the post-adventure resort (where the narrative writer went to get drunk and hit on the board member) in which the staff assure a guest that the eggs they serve are cage-free and the meat isn’t factory-farmed.

There is one thing that I don’t think we’ve discussed yet. After Maeve cut the throat of the asshole tech, the Asian tech stitched him back up. Does that mean that he’s a host or that the same equipment works on regular folks?

Bye bye to Billy!

At this point, I’m rooting for Maeve and Bernard.

I think that the picture of Billy’s fiancee is the same picture that Dolores’s original Dad found that make his mind go kablooee.

Watching this show is like getting completely hammered on a Friday night, waking up on Saturday, and trying to figure out what the fuck happened the night before.

I believe you are correct.

Only one episode left?

Sharp eye. It is.

So the picture thing is even more evidence that we have two timelines and that William/Logan is earlier than everything else.

My theory is that Logan is the Man in Black. He is fabulously wealthy, on the Board of Westworld and hates Dolores.

Logan has brown eyes though. The popular theory that William=MiB is better supported by the fact that they both have blue eyes.

What would cause William to grow to hate Dolores so much? And why would he plant that picture?

Logan is the psychopath, has reason to hate Dolores and reason to plant the picture as revenge for his wronged sister.

When Logan cuts into Dolores to prove to Billy that she’s not real he revealed more mechanical than human inner workings. So he either had to know that Dolores was an old type and wouldn’t look human on the inside, or that it was 30 years ago when all the hosts were mechanical like that.

I think those scenes are from 30 years ago and Billy becomes MiB.

Yeah, but assuming they haven’t made a mistake in the eye color thing, then…
Anyway, I don’t think MiB hates Dolores. I do think he’s trying to jar her out of her loop though. I’m not sure if I have the timeline thing right or not, but I kind of wonder if what he did in the barn with her was not a rape but something to provoke her to take his gun and hide it for later use when she finally does break free.

That is a very real possibility. He could have been trying to scare her to get information like he did with the little girl a few episodes back. I just don’t see William flipping to be such a psychopath. Did he really have to scalp the poker dealer alive to get the maze map?

I was just looking at reddit and the overwhelming majority thinks that it’s William = MiB and largely because of the eye color as you also say. Anyone who suggests that it’s Logan gets downvoted to hell.

Anyway, from there I also saw that the last episode is 90 minutes. It’s sure to be a wild ride.

hajario why do you conclude that MiB hates Dolores?

Remember that we did not see him rape her, just drag her to the barn and ominously say something about helping her remember him.

In any case Dolores is in the present experiencing present and flashback memories all mixed together (nevermind that we had scenes if Billy and Logan without her).

If MiB is Billy all growed up and does “hate” Dolores it is not hard to imagine why. He just had a major break a consequence of her. This was the emergence of his dark side and if she returns to usual programming or other programming that ignores him, well that would not be experienced well. And what he just did was very MiBish.

Why did Ford have Bernard kill himself instead of wiping him again?

Why is Teddy’s backstory changing so much with newly “discovered memories” to the point where now seems to actually be Wyatt? What purpose is there to having it fluid?

I am more convinced that security guy, Ashley Stubbs, is a host. But what is the point of having him lured into a trap?
