Westworld S2 (show spoilers as it airs)

Hosts have part-brains. The core seems to sit in otherwise-normal-looking grey matter.

Gross Link I’m guessing printed animals can have part-brains too, just with safety protocols in a *much *smaller controller or possibly even distributed in the brain tissue somehow (since you don’t need to worry about maintaining or transferring individual pig personalities or memories).

One thing to remember: in the first episode of the season we see Dolores shooting down one of the Lakotas (I haven’t checked to see if it was this one specifically) and telling him there is no place for him in the new world. Given that they are all apparently “awake”, this makes me wonder what Dolores’ ultimate agenda is. Nonetheless, best not to get too emotionally attached to the tribe.

Dolores is specifically called the Deathbringer by Akecheta and company. I don’t think there’s any love lost between them. Early on, he was specifically rescuing guests and other humans trapped in the park (e.g., Sizemore). Now it appears he’s also going to be rescuing hosts who’d be inclined to oppose Dolores (i.e., Maeve).

I had never visited the site, I enjoyed clicking through it. The mobile game seems lame though.

Makes sense (and thanks for the information).

I was actually thinking of Jurassic Park where Dr. Ian Malcolm tells John Hammond that “if The Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don’t eat the tourists.” Given that Jurassic Park was also written by Michael Crichton, maybe Spielberg knew that and that’s how the line got in the movie.

I gather for the maze symbol to have an effect, the host has to be particularly curious (as Akecheta is) and have several years of continuous operation to dwell on it, as Akecheta had. After that, imparting this insight onto other hosts is itself a lengthy process. I further gather Akecheta and some of his followers have indeed been drawing the maze symbol around the park, hence its random appearances in various episodes, but the sight of it alone doesn’t trigger awakening.

Before moving into the most recent ep - Akecheta and followers drawing the maze symbol around the park explains some of its random appearances in various episodes, but not its being in their scalps.

Sorry to see Emily offed.

The way William is dealing with his arm is suggesting that he doesn’t belong to the outside world, never did, because he is a sim himself. But I’ll be annoyed if they do that.

A well done ep, not as good as last week, and another that benefited by doing a bit less with the keep us guessing non-linear story telling. But I’m hoping the tie it all together next week does not disappoint too badly.

Is the forge what Bernard told Elsie it is?

I think Emily was fake. If not, then Ed Harris has to be near the end of his arc.

Didn’t the extraction team scan the back of William’s skull and confirm that he wasn’t a host? Or did I misunderstand what they were doing?

Yes, that is what they’re doing. The show did that to either prove to all of us William is human, or throw us off the scent for when they reveal him to be a host.

Frankly, I’m praying to God they keep him human because if they resort to the “Lol the person you thought was human was a robot this whole time!” reveal for the second season in a row I will be pissed.

While I welcome Sela Ward on my TV screen anytime, I didn’t find the flashback with William, Juliet, and Emily all that compelling. It didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know or could piece together. I think they just needed an excuse for Ed Harris and Anthony Hopkins to have a scene together.

Clementine now has the Maeve admin script and QA are going to set her to infect the other hosts to kill each other. In other words Zombie Clementine is going to make more zombies. Now is this going to work on the woke hosts? Especially Maeve, who has Core Permissions unlocked.

Though if they reveal they figured out immortality through hosts, that would open up all sorts of narratives. However, I think it’s more that Ford is ‘winning’ this last game against William, as William is questioning everything about his reality and especially if hosts are actually guests and vice versa.

They’ve already established that it does not work on woke hosts … but Charlotte does not know that.

Yes they scanned him but then again expects Ford had something to do with how the scanners are programmed.

That said I’m expecting that the implication is just to mess with us.

If Emily is not human she did not know it. She told the Ghost Nation braves the same basic motivation she shared near the end - to bring him down and make him suffer, her way more than theirs.

And no more Teddy. Not shocking but still, good character, sad to not have him to kicked around any more.

I was glad to actually see what was going on with William, his messed-up wife (haven’t seen Sela Ward in years - she’s looking good) and their daughter back in the day. I’m pretty sure the daughter was real in the park and that William (who, I agree, had better not be a host after the Bernard reveal) really did kill her. Idjit. But there’s just no way he could’ve survived all the gunshot wounds he got from Maeve and Lawrence and kept on going without surgery.

Anthony Hopkins was in the opening credits again - when did they add him back? Two episodes ago, when Bernard first saw him playing piano in the saloon? Hopkins really is a magnificent actor - he can do more with a raised eyebrow, or a chuckle, or a stare than most actors can with their whole bodies. I always find myself watching him very closely. Nice scenes of Ford with Maeve in the lab, and with William sitting at the bar.

I thought Elsie would put up more of a fight when Bernard said he was going to leave her behind.

I guessed what Teddy was going to do. Bummer. He might still get repaired and be back up on his feet before too long, though.

After all this time, I was a little surprised to see a nude Dolores in the lab when Teddy was first activated.

I think father & daughter are both human. Emily being a Host makes her father shooting her completely meaningless; William being a Host after all this time is too much of a mind screw to make dramatic sense.

I think she was fake too. It’s been bugging me that she spoke Lakota. Also, it the first episode we met her, she shot at her companion to verify that he was human. He didn’t do that to her. We have no evidence that she is human.

I agree about the gunshots, unless Ford intervened somehow and kept the shots from being full impact or something. William certainly seems to think he’s a host. He’s telegraphing it pretty hard, which makes me think that he’s human.

I think he’ll be back. He’s the conscience of the Deathbringer.

I’m hoping Maeve wakes all of the “taken” hosts that are in storage.

Agreed, plus we’ve seen William’s breakdown slowly progressing all season (and arguably last season). Having him be human but questioning his reality - after questioning everyone else’s - would be the next step on his tragic path.

That said, I too think a human who had been shot up that much would be dead already, but I’m putting it down to dramatic purposes rather than evidence of hosthood.

And yet we saw him floating in the water in the flooded valley in the first episode. So either he comes back or it’s a different Teddy.

Remember that she was also wary that he might hurt her, particularly after seeing him tied to the steering wheel. She might have been angry at being left but too afraid to push her way into a vehicle with an unstable and potentially homicidal android.

I had the same thought. But either way, she may not be dead even if human.

Ah, good point. I’d forgotten that - and he smiled a little, too, didn’t he, as he floated there?

Arnold worked out that Dolores had to kill someone ferreals to give her the final nudge into sentience.
Easy conclusion: If William is a bot in a similar ‘pre-natal’ state, killing his own daughter ought to do the trick
Better conclusion: William tells his semi conscious wife that he feels like he is part of Westworld, not part of Realworld. Ford orchestrates a scenario in which William kills his own daughter, or believes he does, in order to bump him into/back into reality. Implication being humans can become just as unwoke as the bots.
